Mission Date: 01-10-16
Time: 09:30

This time we followed the Major up and as we got to the half way point of our patrol we noticed four Halberstadt D.IIs coming in. Three were heading straight for me. In the ensuing battle I put three drums into one and he finally lit up. Burning his craft fell to it's death. Broadsword, Bully and Jammy also got a claim each. Jammy was damaged but managed to make it over the lines before putting down. Unfortunately the Major was shot down over the German side and is assumed dead.

Flown by:

Major Bertie Yornold
Cpt Peter 'Pariah' Gunstone
Lt Angus 'Secu' Lond
2nd Lt Eugene 'Jammy' Chapman
2nd Lt Herman 'Broadsword' Borrell
2nd Lt Peter 'Bully' Peltie

Claims:

Cpt Peter 'Pariah' Gunstone - 1 x Halberstadt D.II
2nd Lt Eugene 'Jammy' Chapman - 1 x Halberstadt D.II
2nd Lt Herman 'Broadsword' Borrell - 1 x Halberstadt D.II
2nd Lt Peter 'Bully' Peltie - 1 x Halberstadt D.II

Incoming DFW and we were to intercept them. We followed the Major and found our prey. 6 DFWs flying a few thousand feet. We climbed and climbed and Broadsword managed to get some hits in but was hit. Wounded he flew back. I flew back to cover him. Bunny led the others but was also injured along with Jammy and Bully. All made it back to our side of the lines before putting down in various fields.

Everyone made it back ok? Even the unkillable Elias Parsons? Excellent stuff guys :nice: Sorry I had to shoot off, Mrs B arrived home with food ready to go.

I must go up to the skies again, to the peace of silent flight, To the gull’s way, and the hawk’s way, and the free wings’ delight;
And all I ask is a friendly joke with a laughing fellow rover, And a large beer, and a deep sleep, when the long flight’s over.

Yep. He crashes in no mans land and is injured but he lives. His name is now legend, spoken about in hushed tones. New pilots are often daring each other to stroke his lapels in the hopes that his good luck rubs off on them.
