JG26 campaign reports - 6 October 41

Post by DavidRed » Sat Oct 06, 2012 9:29 pm

we took off from the same airfield with 5/JG27 and another swarm.
after the first few seconds one of them managed to get killed in the attempt to start his engine.
after the first swarm was in the air, we decided to take off, as 5/JG27 was roaring up their engines already in our back.
so we tried to sneak between all sorts of bushes and trees and the very rough surface of the desert, but in the end JG26 managed to take off.
soon we spotted the bombers which we were going to escort, so according to the briefing, we built the right wing, and stayed with the italians.

as we got closer to the target, we already heard messages of nearby enemies over the radio.i also saw tracers in the far distance, but i decided to protect the heavies.
a few minutes later, we suddenly saw at least two hurricanes right behind the bombers.so i went into a dive and closed in on one of them.he didnt notice me, so i pulled the trigger and chopped off his left wing after his engine started to leak all sorts of things.
meanwhile more foes were around, and traces were to be seen everywhere, accompanied with desperated radio messages.
suddenly tracers went past my cockpit.i checked my six, and saw a hurri wich was getting bigger in a split second, gaining on me fast.so i barrel rolled away, and made the brit to overshoot me.
i watched him climbing vertical away, so i stayed with him, hoping that my 109 will get close enough.then i soon noticed, that another 4 109s were already behind him.
that bastard was not going home anymore for sure.he was forced to stay down low, barrel rolling and turning on deck over the coastline.
i got a few shots on him, but in the end Oberleutnant Pitti took his chance and blew him up mid air.i watched the torn parts falling to the gound.
then Oberleutnant Pitti got a six....i tried to get the hurri off from his tail, and suceeded, but his engine was damaged/shot in the attempt to escape, as well as the plane of Gefreiter Apache.both managed to land safely, but over enemy territory.
above the wreckage of Oberleutnant Pitti there were still some hurricanes.so i decided to make use of the rest of my belts.i damaged another hurri and saw the engine leaking and smoking, and also got a few shots on a third one, but without obvious damage.
when the battlearea finally became more quiet, i decided to go home.so about 15minutes later i landed successfully on our homefield.
