The Ju88 A-4 on BoX a beginners guide

Post by Meaker » Thu Jan 18, 2018 4:00 pm

I don't know if any of you chaps has tried the BoX Ju88 A-4 yet,but if you do,your in for a real treat.

Firstly, you have to have it enabled ie you'll have to have Battle Of Moscow installed to get it in the relevant aircraft selection that comes with BoM.

After you have got it,there's no way of breaking this to you easily,it is probably the most difficult of all BoX aircraft to get airborne so here's a few tips.

You steer it with the brakes, not the rudder and brakes, just dab your left brake to go left and dab your right brake to go right etc,and use your throttles with care !

For take off set your flaps so the yellow flap indicator light appears, now on take off,as soon as your over about 50 mph push your stick forward to bring the tail wheel off the deck, hold it level, and then at about 120 mph pull back on the stick to get the old girl airborne. Now build up your speed before attempting any turns.

Once she's airborne back off your throttle and RPM's to about 75 % and adjust cowling flaps to about 45 %,once your happy and she's movin' along nicely retract your flaps, and she'll fly around all day on these settings :D

For climbing, adjust throttle and RPM's to about 80%,but only use these settings for about 30 minutes no more,or you'll damage those precious Jumo 211 engines.

It's also wise to have the Level Flight Autopilot mapped so you can use the bombsight easily, just like the old Blenheim really, only the Ju88 is a Schnellbomber or fast bomber, yes, she really goes !.......not like the slow old Blennie.

My settings for continuous flying are 75% on both throttles and RPM,this roughly equates to the correct nominal engine settings of 2250 RPM with 1.15 ata manifold pressure.

Last but not least DO NOT FLY WITH 100 % FUEL........30% is far better espially if your heavily laden with the Fuhrer's iron eggs.

***I will also point out this is a very light version of procedures to get you going in the Ju88,a far more precise and detailed version can be viewed over at the BoX forum.***

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm really enjoying the German bombers

Happy Bombing

Yes it's a lovely aircraft! I actually bought another CH yoke just to fly the bombers in BoS.

I fly the bombers in BoX with my Saitek ProFlight Yoke. I personally love the Heinkel 111 and haven't tried the Junkers yet.

@Thaine........You've got to give the Ju88 a go,you're in for a real treat :D ,though as I said,go easy when taxing,she's pretty powerful,and you must,must just taxi on your brakes,or you'll be doing 360's all over the airfield,once airborne,and you've settled all your controls,she's a peach.

It's great having a bomber that's got some power too, give her a go Thaine you will not regret it buddy.

Just as another tip I navigate by using the bomb aimers position,it's just easier to see the landmarks that way, this also includes when you navigating the airfield too on taxing.

Great aircraft :nice:

Great to see one more enjoying the glorious 88 :nice:

And Thaine Meaker's right. The only thing I prefer about the 111 is the better view to the front

Yes ok. I'll try it.

It's just that I think the 111 is gorgeous. The 88 is alright.

We should team up and have a sortie together.
