Oculus Rift, convince me not to buy one...

Post by Von Archie » Thu Mar 01, 2018 2:54 pm

My finger has been hovering over the buy button for weeks now, I reckon VR porn would be epic, and it might even be pretty good in BoX...

Yeah but there's always something better coming, and I think PC requirements might be even higher than they are now. I'm not buying a 1080Ti while crypto is screwing GPU prices.

I get to a Rift the next couple of weeks; bringing it home tomorrow. I'll see what I can do about convincing you not to buy it, Archie. :D

Same as you watched and watched and watched, then a price drop about 4 months ago and pressed buy. Best decision, as you said there is always something else and if you keep waiting you will never buy. Graphics are mostly very good. Some demos are not so good and some are brilliant, some games have some screen door effect others are Crystal clear.

98% of the time a very good experience. The odd game that has screen door effect you will not notice once you get into the game and there are a few tweaks you can do. I use a free Oculus Rift tool that makes a big difference and is very easy to use.

Go on, treat yourself.

Same for me Archie, I have nearly bought one on about 4 occasions over the last couple of weeks. :) kind of regret getting rid of mine

I had been wondering whether I should wait for the new vive but running a 1080 I'm not sure if it will handle it ok, has there been any info on what GPU will be needed?

As for the OR, can it actually be used ok for air to air combat? I know Woza uses his but do you have to sacrifice much in terms of gameplay?

I got rid of mine as I tried it in DCS and felt that it wasn't good enough for spotting and identifying contacts.

I'm very tempted to order one now but can it really replace a monitor for practical use in BoX and DCS? Just don't want to buy it if it is a novelty that will wear off whilst at the same time putting me off using a monitor.
