Re: DCS Spitfire: Campaign, Opeation Epsom
Hell's teeth I hope this is good. I had my first fly around the Normandy map yesterday and then played the quick dog fight mission several times. All good. I have to say I prefer the inside of the CLoD cockpit for that ‘lived in feel’ but the DSC Spit flies beautifully. The AI seemed to fight fairly realistically compared to the rubbish AI in CLoD.
And then I looked at what else I could do……, created a quick mission and decided I didn’t fancy going up against Mig 29s and SAM7s. But I was so enthused I downloaded a IL2 1946 campaign and played all 14 missions straight. Single player and multiplayer both have their merits. I love single player campaigns but have forgotten they exist because the ones for CLoD are so absolutely crap.
I really hope this one is good.
I never understood why CLoD didn’t just sort out the AI (even give it the same AI as 1946) and get some of the 1946 authors to write their campaigns for them. What the fuck was that ‘Heart Breaker’ shit all about, Muppets.
Sorry. Really looking forward to this.

Understand this:
THe campaign is VERY systems demanding at this time- as regards to the current state of all things in this beta.
The damage model is still old, same for the effects.
Flak 88's although present, have no black puffs (yet)
Light calibre flak work as intended.
The general level of quality- documentation etc is top notch, but I would still consider it a "preview". until the rest of the effects are in order.
The default "Muscat" 126 sqn sqns are used as default, I would recommend using Reflected skins (selectable in Mission planning after installing it).

The easiest way to get the required frames needed for playability:
Both shadow options to FLAT
Visibility settings to MEDIUM
That makes it playable for me, but only just (around 20-25 fps on ground and 20-50 FPS airborne.) There is a LOT of activity on the ground, which is the culprit, as I usually get decent performance in Normandy. Your mileage may vary.
