Finally decided to get off my ass and clean up the Russian capture K98 I purchased about 4 years ago. It was covered in shellac and cosmoline so I wanted to restore it back to it's former condition. I have never tried this before and I'm very happy how it turned out.
This was the original condition
Disassembled and wood stripped of finish
A coat of oil on the wood and cleaned up
The final product
Its a model of sorts...

If you could find an original strap, that would be the icing on the cake.

I can tell what that walnut (?) feels like. Top job.
You should make a short video where you run the action to show us what it sounds like, cause I'd imagine it's bolt-action ASMR.

Wow! That looks amazing, I have a Russian Capture as well and this is tempting me to touch up the stock on mine. I'm lucky too that mine wasn't peened to have the eagles removed

I was also fortunate to retain the original marks but mine aren't nearly as crisp as yours. If you clean up that stock you would have a good looking rifle!
