Eduard 1/48 Fw 190 A3 9./JG26 campaign markings

My take on the excellent skins done by Blondi for this campaign. This is my Gelbe 4.

Used Eduards Profipack kit and a mix of Vallejo /Ak real colours and Mr hobby Aqueous paints.

Tried doing the chipping using Aks worn effect chipping fluids so went away from my usual black basing technique. I first did a coat of Ak extreme metal aluminium around the heavy wear areas, then applied the chipping fluid over it. I then used Aks real colour Rlm 02 and sprayed the whole model. I chipped the first layer off leaving some exposed aluminium and then coated it with clear. I then sprayed another layer of chipping fluid over areas I wanted to weather and then sprayed the camo. I then chipped this mostly with a brush but also some fine scratches with an old airbrush needle. Really liked the effect even though it is a touch heavy.

I love it, these birds were often more worn than we think.
It’s a real challenge to find the right time.
In that case, you have it.

Depends on the time of the war. I am just listening to the war diary of a fighter pilot of 7./JG 77 and at some point in the first half of 1944 the mechanics tell the pilot, not to fly in the engines of a new 109 anymore, because on the next mission he will already have a new one. And true, basically after almost every mission his 109 gets back badly damaged or he had to bail or crashland somewhere.

Even later in that year they stopped reparing damaged ones, because they lacked spare parts and it was easier for the Geschwader just to take a new plane just delivered from the factory.

Sounds crazy, but that's how it was for the Luftwaffe in the last years of the war.
