We were scrambled to intercept incoming DFWs. We climbed and climbed and unfortunately Capt Peter 'Pariah' Gunstone, who damaged his wing on take-off, died when his wings tore off. Despite his valiant efforts to land his aircraft he died on impact. The rest cracked on with their attack. Bunny managed to take on out before dying. Jammy was shot dead in the cockpit. We lost Broadsword and Bully in the action as well. This was a sad day for No.29 squadron.

Tasked with penetrating enemy transport hubs No.29 squadron heading off with the usual banter and high spirits. That's until they were nearly bounced. Multiple Albatri closing in, Capt. Pariah was eagle eyed in spotting them and called out to his comrades. 'What would you like us to do' asked 2nd Lt Egon 'Broadsword' Toast. 'Well, shoot at 'em' replied Pariah. Broadsword not realising some were amongst us as his eyes were fixated on some on high. In the end no-one made any claims and we lost Jammy when his plane caught light. and 2nd Egon 'Broadsword' Toast when his plane collided with a German.

Mission Date: 07-05-17
Time: 14:30

A patrol down the lines was interrupted when 2nd Fred 'Broadsword' Leicester noticed a Balloon. We headed towards it but it looked like it would be pulled down before we got there. Pariah called that they should leave it but then it seemed to be held in place.

As Pariah approached from the south and the stalwart boys of No.29 heading from the east it was inevitable that a mishap was about to occur. Pariah dove in first. Getting some hits in, Broadsword doing likewise before Pariah's Nieuport crossed his path. Capt. William 'Pariah' Bunting wounded by a bullet from Broadsword's Lewis gun. He peeled away and Secu and Bully attacked the Drachen. A few more passes were made as we each only had the single Lewis. Bully got more hits in and some into Pariah who still couldn't believe his own chaps were shooting him.

The Balloon was downed by the legend that is Lt Angus 'Secu' Lond. We all headed for home. Pariah fired a flare to regroup the squadron. A cry was heard. It was Broadsword, he'd been hit by archie. Shortly after both Bully and Secu were hit. Bully was wounded and dove low. Lt Angus 'Secu' Lond's plane was destroyed and he may well have been dead before he hit the ground. No.29 squadron has lost an ace, a legend. An inspiration to a generation and frankly the only damned pilot were a damn.

Rest in Peace Lt Angus 'Secu' Lond.
