Cliffs - Crashing to Desktop

Post by Rob » Fri Aug 06, 2021 1:49 pm

Hi

Cliffs is driving me up the wall.

I am getting lots of crashes to desktop, it tends to happen after I have clicked on create to start the mission. I kind of see the cockpit starting to show and then it crashes. Its happening in all servers and in single player.

I have posted on ATAG and tried their suggestions. I have tried the following

Reinstalling the game on the same SSD as my windows installation.
Turned off Steam overlay
Cleared the cache folder in the 1c document folder, this seems to help a bit but not always.
Tried renaming the document folder il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder, again this seems to help a bit but a new folder with the original name gets generated.
Ive changed compatibility to Windows 7

I'm running Windows 10 pro, I7 9700KF, 32GB RAM, GTX 1070 with a 240gb SSD.

Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks for reading

Rob

Try changing compatibility mode to connect I think. Done this ages ago no dramas ever since.

Yeah worth a try, do it through steam, had similar issues and it solved them.

Hi

Thanks for the replies, I'm not sure what you mean by change compatibility to connect?

Cheers

This video will show you how to access compatibility mode through Steam, after you have done the browse local files step you will need to do the following

  • In the game folder the file you need is called 'Launcher 64', right click this file and select properties
  • Then select the compatibility tab
  • Click the tick box 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and select windows 7, apply and hit ok

Hopefully this is your issue and it solves it, good luck...

Hi Rob i have windows 10 Pro and had a lot of issues with compatibility which led to crashes and very long load times. if none of the above fixes the problem try this. it worked for me.
