I have not loaded Win8 on the same PC as of yet, so I don't know the comparison there yet first hand. This review is pretty comprehensive as it uses both AMD nVidia vcards and runs a gaming battery of tests. Turns out that win8.1 is slightly faster and smoother than win7, like 3 and 6% for the vcards, R9-290x and GTX 780 respectively. (Bf4, not CLOD):

The first thing I do with Win8.x on a PC is to get rid of METRO to return it to Win7 GUI with the Start Menu interface:

On my MS Surface Tablet PC, Metro is fine because its a touch panel screen.
I can vouch for Classic Shell. Runs like a champ on Win8.1, and makes it a whole new experience. (much better)!

I as looking a os' last night and on ms website they had an app that would scan your system and find out what win 8.1 was compatible with ironically it would be compatible with all my hardware and almost all of my software except CLOD go figure.
So that scared me off win 8.1 I'm sure people are running clod with 8.1 but I found it curious that it was not compatible with 8.1.
Thanks for the info.I'm looking at around 700$ in really nice hardware mainboard ram an cpu.I also heard sometime early next year ms is gonna stop supporting win 7 but that is just something I read on the internet, cheers.

COD works fine with 8.1, that's just MS bullshit. I posted a link on making it work.

The stock game doesn't work of course, it was released before Window 8 was release, but with TF mods it works fine.

Hi All,

After working through the history of the posts in this discussion I took the time out to check my own installation.

I am currently running Win 7 x64 and totally up to date with all patches. Including KP2670838 which was installed 26th August 2014.

Can anybody describe the symptoms that you experienced in relation to this patch that has caused such concern. I have noted the CTD references, but they are exactly that... references only... no detail to guide me in checking whether I have an accident waiting to happen.

As things stand though I have not yet seen COD execute a CTD :)

If the CLOD launcher isn't crashing, then it's clear sailing. It's been almost a year since this plague was haunting us, could be its issues have been addressed since. I'm not going back and enabling it though. If she ain't broke, don't fix it. I always say.

Ahhhhh, found and killed it. Perhaps now it will stop crashing.
