New Pilot (hopefully)

Post by Masterdoddy » Wed Sep 20, 2017 12:14 pm

Good day everyone,

With the Battle of Britain remembrance service recently I had a bug to watch the film, and as a consequence, to play CLoD. I have the pleasure to know one of your members, Genisis (615 sqn I believe), as I was the IT Technician who upgraded his computer and helped him with TrackIR sometime last year. It was fortunate since I had recently purchased it myself and had CLoD so we were on the same page!

While I have been a gamer for a long time, I have never been much of a flight sim fan, and as such my knowledge of flying in a realistic manner is minimal. However, for the last week I have loaded up CLoD on a few occasions, put it on full realism, and have thoroughly enjoyed learning to fly as opposed to just playing a game.

I recognise the commitments asked for from ACG members but, as it stands, I may not be a frequent flyer for some time as I am buying my first house as we speak; but that is certainly my intention in the future. I will need some hand holding and a patient tutor, but in return I am happy to provide my IT knowledge to the group (FYI Genisis, I am now IT Manager for an architect firm) which has long been specialised in repairs, custom builds, problem solving, and most Hardware and Software related areas.

Happy flying.
Simon

Welcome Simon,

We'll be happy to help you fly and fight, whatever side you choose. Any ideas on that btw? RAF or Luftwaffe? There's plenty of chaps around that will "hold your hand". Be advised thought, if it's Kildren or Nitrous that offer to hold your hand, run fast. Otherwise you should be save and we can always use somebody with IT knowledge around. Good luck on your move with the house. Just jump on our Teamspeak or be active in the forums and we'll take it from there.

A very warm welcome Simon. Is programming one of the IT skills in your arsenal? We do have a couple of programmers on the team, and actively write code to maintain and improve everything from the website and the Pilot Mission database through to the Radar system used by our fighter controllers on campaign nights etc... No problem if you don't, but it's always worth finding peeps with knowledge!

I would like to join the RAF side since i've spent time practicing with the Hurricane mostly.

i'm afraid programming is not my area (fries my head!). System building, maintenance and repairs are my forte. I'm currently building up an old system to become a dedicated Arma 3 server for some friends and I; as soon as I get the time anyway haha.
