No worries, Elos. Good old Google translator! Thanks for the picture. The 88 AA is an impressive looking flak unit , as is the surrounding museum display (from what I can see from the pictures on the museum website; worth a look for those interested.). Very nice. thank you for sharing,

Bunny, I'm quite sure I don't know what a "shufty" is.

It's a term we use over here for " looking" at some thing.

Like Ginger said I had to look it up though, always assumed it was common, but apparently it's an Anglicized version of the Arabic 'shufti', picked up by RAF personnel in the Middle East around 1925, and spread to the Army by 1930.
So no more excuse to look like a daft apeth Flyby

I'm clearly in need of learning proper English slang! But to infer one is a daft apeth seems a bit of double jeopardy. Either that or I can't even afford a clue.Bunny wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 4:32 pmLike Ginger said I had to look it up though, always assumed it was common, but apparently it's an Anglicized version of the Arabic 'shufti', picked up by RAF personnel in the Middle East around 1925, and spread to the Army by 1930.

The beauty of language I just watched a chap from somewhere in the US on YouTube talking about pruning apple trees, and I just about kept up with the video, but the comment section was like another language

As was said back in the day, " two peoples separated by a common language. Pruning refers to the select removal of certain parts of a plant. At least it does here. I can't speak for anywhere beyond Trumpville.
