Escorts/Radar

Escorts/Radar

Post by Santiago » Sat Mar 05, 2016 12:42 pm

Hi all,
First of thanks for reading this and thank you again if you manage to post an answer....I recently made a very brief mission (well part of one,the Boss did the rest) for 610's Tuesday training night. All very easy and rather predictable but it does give a controlled mission where everything can be practised. Just a flight of 109's on a fighter sweep ready to be attacked by the glorious boys in blue. Respawning was to be done by the Boss...but i know how to do it now too!! (evil chuckle).
Wanting to "liven" things up a bit and put him and the squadron to a bit more of a test i thought of expanding it, again predictable but controlled, easily repeated until things get coordinated and everybody knows what they have to do-it is training after all..

A flight of bombers being escorted by fighters

I know how to spawn(and respawn flights) get bombers to attack targets (or dive bomb for that matter) ,but what i can't get to work is the escorting side of things. Years ago i could with Forgotten Battles (yup i'm THAT old) but it's a case of either i don't remember or the coding has changed (along with my hair colour). The closest i can get is to place the escorts slightly behind and above to "mirror" the bombers waypoints and have them flying at either the sames speed or a liiiittle slower, and have their waypoints as "free hunt"-that is translated from Spanish by the way,not sure what it is in English but it should be very similar- this "works" but "feels" wrong. In days gone by you would place the waypoint as "escort" and the use the "target reticule" and "set"... but i can't seem to get it to work
Any ideas? Please.....

Onto the second part-Radar. This does give me the jitters but let me explain things as i see them. It's training. Everyone has to train-not just the pilots/wingman on flying in formation or shooting things down. The Boss has to find them-HE has to train too. So, his job is to find the so and so's and that means getting vectored in by radar. Please, how do i "activate" the chain home radar ( or the German one for that matter, i don't mind knocking up a template for anybody). Is it similar to "activating" an airfield with its spawn points and corresponding selection of aircraft available? I have NO idea on this one...

Anyway, thanks for reading this once more, i know it's long but i hope i have been clear and you know what i'm after...
And "Bully", thank you again

Hi Santiago,

The escort option still exists, and you have the green circle to select the waves to escort. All you have to do is set up the raids as you have, change the waypoint type to escort, then click set. You should then get a green circle with a Line. Just select the waypoint of a raid you want to escort.

The radar (as we know it on the public server) is built into the server coding and is not enabled in the FMB or anything like that.

Hi bully,
so, i do that for EACH waypoint then? set up escort for EACH waypoint and then press set and manually put the cross hairs with the green line attached over the waypoint of the formation that i want escorting. This being repeated for all the waypoints (which i want to have the escorts)?

That's what I have always done, to be safe. Not tested it too much though as not using the AI fighters in campaigns.

Great,
not sure what i was doing wrong, it's just like Forgotten Battles then.
Okay,if Radar is out, is there a way i can have a message come up after a set period of time? Eg After 5 minutes a message appears on screen saying "enemy aircraft over so and so at such and such a height,SCRAMBLE!". I've done it in Arma,Rise of Flight, Dcs etc ,or maybe put a sound file simulating someone shouting "scramble!"? I've seen boyeezes videos on spawning things after a certain time , so could i spawn the bombers say after 5 mins and then after 5 mins 10 seconds have a message come up on screen? Maybe the sound file is a bit too much! (though i have added sound files to dcs radio homing devices...)

Many thanks, i owe you a beer!!

Yeah you could set either a pass through trigger or timer trigger to send up the message. Needs to be in c#
