A big thanks to the Ground Controller tonight. I have no idea who it was but they did a fine job. Intercepts were clear and concise and whilst transmissions were minimal (as they should be) what was said was timely, calm, confident and accurate.

Well done who ever you were.

This means I need to get on with the GC aide memoir I said I would write before we get back to home ops.

OK, I’ll come clean! I said it was refreshing to have someone competent on the other end of the radio and then I may have intimated that Geordie wasn’t the best Fighter Controller in the world.

We need to have a discussion on GC for when we enter the BoB. I for one want to take a stint at it again - but I think we need more than one controller at a time.

There needs to be some guidance as well. It was very unfair of me to denigrate Geordie as there is no training or guidance for this. I have promised to write a guide so that there is a common use of language and common set of procedures. I have some RAF and RN FC mates that I borrowed some notes off and I think I can write a simple one page idiots guide to ACG FC’ing that should be easy to do but sound authentic (ish). I just need to find the time.

Yes Bonkin absolutely. The idea we had was that each Squadron should put forward two members to be trained up with the GC then with the shift system there would always be somebody manning the GC and no pilot would have to miss out on flying that night.
