How difficult is it to navigate on this North African map? I'm referring to obtaining visual landmarks on the chunk of territory inland without the coastline or characteristic ravine/canyon/cliff shapes.

I remember in the old IL-2 the roads zigzagged in 45 or 90 degree angle segments and (provided you were not in the qattara depression or reaaaally down south) you were able to tell your position by looking at one or two roads far away and looking at the zigzagging shapes, which you could match to some map area.

I imagine the properly splined roads , if any, will be much harder to use or simply useless in order to triangulate your position.
