Book recommendations for the eastern front anyone?

Post by Thaine » Mon Jan 08, 2018 11:04 am

Anybody has book recommendations for the eastern front?

I don't know very much about that conflict but would like learn a bit more. Naturally I'm mostly interested in the battles that are available to fly (Moscow, Kuban, Stalingrad), but a general overview would be fine as well. What squadrons flew? What missions? Etc..

If you can get your hands on this one, it's very good:

Anthony Beevor's "Stalingrad" is a good book on ... Stalingrad. Won a number of awards too.

'Attack of the Airacobras' by Dimitry Loza came highly recommended to me. It's an interesting look into the P-39 in VVS service. It's been a very interesting read. Some reviewers have said they had issue with the translation, although that hasn't been an issue for me so far. It covers the Battle of Kuban, and much more.

Loza has another interesting book, 'Commanding the Red Army's Sherman Tanks' about his experiences as a battalion commander on the Eastern Front.

I've been listening to this audiobook and it's amazing. All by Luftwaffe aces and often about the Eastern Front.
