Is Something Over the Horizon?

I recently re-installed IL-2 1946 and been playing with the map editor again.

I'm not setting anything in stone as I can't turn around a new mission every week. Currently it can take me a couple of weeks to put together quite a "short" and "simple" mission. I'm hoping that the more I use the FMB the quicker I can put together missions.

The current mission I'm working on is actually based on a real mission flown by Norbert Hannig flew in 1944 (or was it 1943?) on the western front. I have placed the mission brief below.

"Our progression through Russia continues and we now have those filthy communists held at the gates of Stalingrad. Although the constant onslaught continues on the ground the Russian's appear to have an endless stream of supplies and troops and there appears to be no end in sight. Intelligence has located is bridge to the south which is being used to supply the Russian front with everything they need to hold us back from taking the city. It is vital we take out that bridge and stop the supplies reaching the front!

A flight of 4 JU-87's will be dispatched to bomb the bridge thus stopping the supply route right in it's tracks. A rotte of BF-109's will take off alongside the Stukkas and provide escort from any enemy fighters which may be in the area. The 109's are -NOT- to leave the Stukka's until they have completed their bombing run and begin to return home.

A flight of FW-190's will be used for forward defence and engagement. It is their job to stop any Russian defence reaching the JU-87's. If they manage to make it though, it will be up to 109's to further defend the flight.

We will be attacking close to sundown at 1900 hours and we expect the mission to take no longer than an hour and a half. Remember gentleman. It is vital that you destroy the bridge and any supplies that may be in the area. It is important to cripple the enemy while he is week and ensure he does not have time to lick his wounds.

Quick update on this. I've had to start re-creating the mission because I lost all my save data. Long story short I tried fucking around with CUP and had to reinstall 1946 and forgot to back up.

On the bright side the mission flows better now. I'm hoping to have 2-3 missions ready for next week if all goes well and I get some time on the weekend. As I'm still finishing off my western front mission, if anyone has any suggestions on what theatre, what aircraft, fighter/bomber mission, etc, they would like to fly. Please let me know so I can start building it.

More news to come.

Ta!
