Testing IL2 1946

She's getting on in the years now, but we still like to jump in the saddle occasionally.

Ok the 6DOF works with BAT, I did tests with the mission builders, just to see both versions. These are the screenshots, I can't say anythings about qualities and drawbacks for FM and IA.
BAT seems smoother, with HSFX I have little freeze, it can't be my hardware, I think HSFX needs more fine tune with the graphics setting and NVIDIA panel.
@Steph : I don't think it's possible to play mission made with one version in the other, the objects in the mission builder haven't have the same reference numbers.

The images, the map is the Chanel and this is Manston airbase

@Secu

With the side by side I see a pretty significant difference in graphics, however it ultimately depends on how people want to go. Both are extremely good ways to go, however my big issue with BAT is that a lot of sounds are changed for the worse, specifically with a lot of bombers and their turrets. The B-17 & B-24 have horrific sounding waist gunners because of BAT. However I can overlook this if people really want to use BAT.

Does anyone have the aircraft list for HSFX? If that gives us enough WW2 aircraft for our needs and is smaller, then maybe it's the way to go. More personal experiences like the above are invaluable though :nice:

They both have all the regular needed and used planes of ww2 BAT just adds a few more extra unique ones and some more mechanics (for instance me262 and uhus with radar sets that you can use in night fighter missions + more field kits for the planes)

I tried making one yestersday, but filling two pages on paper only got though 1/20th of the planes available.

So to save my arm muscles and ink, We have more than enough on all fronts.

Spain and China (The inter war conflicts)

Meager supply of aircraft and maps, but we do have just enough for some fun in Spain

Equally meager supply for the Chinese-Japanese conflict, mostly in terms of Chinese planes. But again, there is just enough.

Some lesser known wars including the Russo-Japanese war, Finnish Winter War and Italian invasion of Ethiopia do also include some planes.

World War 2

Here we get to the core of the mod. All the good stuff comes here.

Poland: Plenty. Poles get their fighters and Bombers, as does the Luftwaffe and Russians.

France: Even the French have a respectable amount of aircraft. Bloch fighters, Moranes and eve the LeO (AI) Bomber/recon. No D520's, but else we have more than enough

Britain: Turns out we actually have a channel map and Spitfire Mk.1's so we have everything for the Battle of Britain.

Norway, Holland, and Denmark: Almost more than enough. Norway has its Gladiators, Denmark and Holland has its Fokkers. The absence of the Fokker G.V could leave an impression however.

Atlantic: Covered. We have the Swordfish and Martlet for the navy and Catalinas, B-24's and more for Coastal Command. And the Luftwaffe gets classics such as the Condor for merchant hunting.

Africa: Both north and south is covered with planes on both sides. P-40's, Hurribombers, 109F's, Macci's and so much more. South has got fewer aircraft but enough for some SFAF vs Italian action.

Mediteranean: Covered. Planes check out the invasion of Greece, Malta, Crete and the final assault on Italy. Modern MC205's P-38's, Mustangs, and everything else. We eve have late war Italian bombers to play with.

Channel battles: Mid war channel battles are still possible with a ton of modern Spits Beaufighters 109's 190's and so on. we have some fancy German bombers with fancy guided missiles for other theatres aswell. And let's not forget the Wellington and Mosquitos.

Bomber Offensive: Here we come across our fist drawback. HSFX has left out a significant chunk of RAF bombers out (Lancaster, Whitley, Stirling and more) only giving us the Halifax for night raids over Germany. If it brings any comfort the U.S have almost got their complete arsenal (B-17s and B-24s). We will also be able to use Thunderbolts for those early years of limited escort missions.

D-Day and Berlin: The great whopper. We will have more than enough for these events. Mozzies, Tempests, V1 launch pads, Me-262's, long focke-wolf's P-51's and more. The only drawback here is the absense of two important aircraft. The Tiffy (Typhoon) and B-26 Marauder. Also missing to a less important degree is the P-61 Black widow.

Eastern Front: Literally everything. The game is Russian at it's core so it should not come as a surprise. From operation Barbarossa to the Battle of Berlin, there is a plane for everything, including their allies. Romanians, Slovakians, Hungarians, Croatians, even Yugoslavia has it's own planes to fly. IL-2's Yaks, Lavochkins, IAR.80's just to name a few. And to top it of, we can go east of Russia to the invasion of Manchuria from the Japanese at the end of WW2.

Finland: Never forget Finlands important role in the Continuation war. After they lost territory during the Winter War they allied themselves with the Axis to reclaim their land. This time they were more prepared with 109G's, Fokker D.XXI's, B239's (Buffalo's) and whatever else they could find. A classic David vs Goliath stance between them and the Soviet Union, you'll always be outgunned as the Finns. Plus fern trees everywhere hard to land in an emergency.

The Pacific: Oleg (The lead dev of the IL-2 series) is half American so it's no wonder we have so many U.S planes in the game. Of which a large attention and love was given the the Pacific DLC. There are barely any missing planes from the theatre.

Pearl harbour? Sorted. Midway? Sorted. Marianas? Sorted. Phillipines? Sort of Sorted (Could use a few Ki-49 bombers) Iwo Jima? Sorted (Kamikaze strikes are programmed into the game), Okinawa? Sorted. South Japan? Just about sorted! It rivals the eastern front in terms of content.

They managed to include Singapore where we had Hurricanes and Buffalo's against Ki-43's and Betty bombers. Australia, New Zealand and almost India have a ton of planes, and my almost India I mean that we have Burma to fly around in. Almost forgot about the War in China which was still going on. That means Flying Tigers. Oh and then there's the Philipine airforce and the desperate Dutch defence of their colonies (it turns out they still had some, who knew!)

Last stop: Korea

excluding their final DLC which involved an alternate 1946 jet campaign HSFX has added the Korean theatre. Not only Korea though as we have some South American skirmishes and the Israeli Airforce flying Croatian 109's against Syrian Spitfires to play around with too.
Going back to Korea though we have the Americans, Russians, Koreans and Chinese covered. Sadly, there is a lack of British and Commonwealth Jets of which the Meteor is clearly absent. Atleast we get the Sea Tempest.

-------------

So in conclusion, World War 2 is super strong when it comes to content, with a small hole appearing over the western front, and weakens in early and late war.

BAT adds a few more planes and a ton of new maps. The real temptation though is that it expands into WW1, fleshes out Spain and goes into the Jet age.
But for me, it is too big, too buggy, and too clunky. I will stick to HSFX any day of the week.
