After mission report RAF squadrons No.501, No.615, No.64.

Escort of Blenheim bomber group to Boulogne, 18th July 1940.

Kenley Wing Squadrons No.501, No.615 and No.64 were to escort Blenheim bomber groups on their mission to Bologne. Visibility conditions were poor due to low light. Only No.615 squadron was able to meet up with the bomber formation which got under heavy attack by german fighters over the french coast. In the ongoing engagement Kenley wing could confirm the kill of 6 enemy aircraft, 6 more enemy aircraft were severely damaged and are believed to be destroyed without any confirmation available. Despite the environmental difficulties RAF fighters were able to inflict heavy damage to the enemy airforces, 14 Luftwaffe fighters are reported to be damaged.

8 aircraft from Kenley wing were lost during the fight, 4 made it back to safety with more or less severe damage. Plt Off Vranac, Flt Sgt Binkitone, Tech Redeye and SAC Johnny did not return from their mission. They will be remembered as outstanding pilots and comrades.
