After mission report RAF squadrons No.501, No.615, No.64.

Intercept of enemy aircraft, 20th July 1940.

Kenley Squadrons No.501, No.615 and No.64 took off from Hawkinge airfield to intercept an incoming raid on allied convoy FS229. They engaged large groups of JU87 and BF109. Their counter attack drove of the enemy and could prevent a complete loss of the convoy. The enemy suffered 5 losses confirmed and 6 losses unconfirmed. Further over 30 enemy aircraft were damaged.

The loss of 7 own aircraft was paid during this day with 3 more returning damaged. Sgt. Fang did not return from his mission and though losses amongst pilots are the lowest since the start of the war, they hurt even more so.
