With the Oberleutnant in Berlin to officially receive his promotion, the Staffel were heading out to unknown territory, in the wild French outback of Theville. Our glorious Gruppenkommandeur has just returned from R&R watching his favorite band the Oom-pah pah's and we are waiting to hear of a temporary 5 staffel leader for our mission today.

Soon, we are aboard our shinning steeds, and preparing for an escort mission for our brave Stukas. The Tommy shipping around the Isle of White will receive a crushing blow from us today. Esri is chosen to lead out the mighty fifth, and veteran Unterfeldwebel Grey leads our shwarm with Lee, Madigan and myself. We take off from the defeated and feeble French soil and head towards our rendevous point with the bombers.

On schedule, we are high and behind the Stukas and as we reach the Tommy shipping, long contacts are spotted. Grey goes on the attack, in a long and sweeping dive. I try to follow and provide cover, but as nearly always happens in the heat of battle, we become seperated. Grey calls out he has brought down a Hurricane but is soon in trouble himself as Madigan reports his plane is hit. As I regain height to form up with Lee, he reports an enemy on my six and I take evasive action and soon lose the ugly wooden pest. I carry on patrolling above the ships when we get the message to RTB, and after arranging our bearing and height I soon find Lee and we form back up and head for home.

The welcoming sight of a friendly airfield is soon before us, and our thoughts are with our fallen kameraden. Hopefully they will return with the rescue boats.. we will need every man for the next big push on the stubborn Tommys.

Yesterday we re-position near the east side of Cherbourg, a base called Theville. Our commander has not yet arrived so I will lead the 4./ Staffel - comprising of Vas, Hypoxia, Bear and myself. Mission briefing is very limited; Rendezvous and escort Stuka’s over Channel to target at Isle of Wight. I’ve never been there but know to expect Hurricanes and Spitfires. The weather is no problem, but flying over all this water is! This dam Channel, the Englanders moat – It has taken many good pilots who would have survived elsewhere. Any ‘slight’ damage to our engines and we’re swimming home or imprisoned. We are all very quiet plotting a course to meet the bombers, adjusted our fuel loads and checking survival equipment. During take-off, I have problems with my machine and must get another. Catching up to Vas and climbing to 5K, I lead the fighter formation into long 180-degree zig-zags slightly above and behind the bombers. As always, when spotted, the English are higher than us. I can tell that they’re completely focused on the Stuka’s because they mistakenly or deliberately ignore us, diving in for the easy prey. We follow and I fasten on to the tail of a Hurricane. I fight to bring my guns to bear as the range rapidly decreased, and when the wingspan of the unsuspecting enemy aircraft is fitted snugly into the range scale bars of my reflector sight, I pressed the firing button. There is an immediate response from my machine guns followed by cannon which, to the accompaniment of a slight bucketing from my aircraft, spat a stream of lethal lead towards my enemy. Parts of his left wing come off hitting my aircraft. He instantly performs a Split-S and dives; I climb almost ‘blacking out.’ 'Got you' I mutter to myself. Before I can fire another burst into my second target, two Spitfires wheel in behind me. I break hard right, flipping my machine over and pull hard on the stick, putting the 109 into a diving, spiraling turn (a maneuver I had discovered in previous combats with Spits to be particularly effective) and one literally "falls out of the sky" as he stalls in an attempt to follow me.
Again looking behind me, the second Spitfire is latched on tight. I continue to dive, then weaving, climbing, rolling but I can’t lose this Bastard. He’s good. Putting flaps down, I attempted to scissor him but as we crossed he holds the advantage and takes out my cooling system. Now venting, I continue to maneuver - Left and right, up and down, over and under, left roll, right roll - I can’t get the initiative on this one and my time is running out. All too soon, my engine starts to rumble and lose power – surely this British pilot can see that I’m doomed and leave me to the sea – or maybe the fear of one of my comrades tailing him will cause him to depart? But no, he continued to fire into my helpless aircraft. Glass shatters, interments explode, metal is holed and then, I’m blinded by oil across my windscreen. Attempting to point my aircraft south while still somewhat maneuvering, I’m terrified to suddenly feel heat from a fire in my rear fuselage! I’m burning! The fuel tank is on fire… FIRE! FIRE! Was this it…the end of Casca?! Out of instinct, I jettison the canopy and jump not knowing my altitude. My chute…my chute...it opens just seconds before I hit cold water. Somewhere mid-channel, I climb into my raft only to be startled by Dornier seaplane painted in white with a large red cross pulling up along side me. Helped inside, I’m amazed to see several English Pilots sitting next to German (all also soaking wet) staring back at me. These Dornier’s are a safe haven, no Brit will shoot at them in fear of killing their own - A few minutes ago we were trying to kill each other, now we smoke cigarettes and pass around wet photographs of our love ones. For these English, the war is over - for me, I could be dead or captured tomorrow but not today...not today.

We started at Theville, i took care of the command of 1.st schwarm, because flyby had some trouble with his radio (damn those German engineers..). I would like to thank all pilots for keeping with me and making my role a lot easier. We assumed the rendezvous position at 5k and after that, we took high guard above the bombers. We proceeded, until we were engaged with enemies, near isle of wight. The mighty fight there was a nasty furball, and our schwarm separated. I maintained height advantage, when i saw, that our stukas are returning, being vulched by some British fighters. I decided to put stop to this and managed to hit multiple perpetrators in the process, freeing our stukas. Then I got hit by hurricane and my oil was damaged. I extended away and tried for RTB but didn't make it. I had to jump.
