Our first mission today was a free hunt over the Manston area in advance of a bomb raid targeted on shipping north of Manston.

We took of 1215 from our base at Maqruise East and the whole Gruppe assembled over Calais. We flew over to England and climbed to an altitude of 6km.
The bombers were about 7 minutes behind us.

While just arrived over Manston I spotted a squadron of Hurricanes passing below us, about 1.5km lower than us. The clock showed 1233. I gave orders to the whole Gruppe to get into a suitable attack position to shoot theses Hurricanes from the skies.

Other pilots reported the arrival of a Spitfire squadron at the same time at the Manston bay at the same altitude. A big dogfight resulted in the whole Manston area from 4 to 7km. I managed to damage one Hurricane and two Spitfires but wasn't able to watch if they went down since the sky was filled with bullets and I had to constantly manoeuvre to keep the enemies away from me.

At 1238 the bombers arrived in the area and started their attacks on the ships. Some of the enemies had spotted them as well and started their attacks on the returning bombers. I ordered everyone to stop the free hunt and to escort the bombers back.

There was still fighting going on in the whole Manston area although the average altitude had dropped to about 3km.

I can confirm a victory of Hauptgefreiter Huff Duff who shot down a Hurricane south of Manston near Deal over the sea at 1300. The Hurricane tried to attack the bombers but Huff Duff sent it down into the sea trailing thick black smoke.

At 1313 I landed back at or airfield. My aircraft was undamaged. I'm really happy that the whole sixth Staffel managed to return, no pilot losses.

We took off and after initial shenanigans we grouped with other swarms and took on course 330. We then met up with multiple squadrons of enemy fighters over Manston. Our schwarm was flying around, picking our fight, when i saw a good opportunity for a shot on enemy plane, so i took it. It was a good shot but i was not able to follow my team after that. So we bounced @ 7k trying to find ourselves, but to no avail. My boys then moved over the ships, so i followed. After some time, i saw a lone hurri, so i engaged and we danced for a while, not really doing any damage. We disengaged and i proceeded to look for my boys again. Then i noticed the bombers and heard over radio that tehy are under attack. I dove on them 700kph style and managed to get some hits on pursuing enemies. Then the action got thick so i pursued lone contact inland to manston. We danced some more, i was firing blind shots. Then our glorious leader Atreides gave a command to reunite, so we aimed for manston bay and managed to reform. We toyed with a spit there but decided to wrap it up before his buddies show up. We had a nice eventfull flight home, with many friendly contacts. After some loitering over home soil we landed on our airfield safe and sound. Boyzee even tried to show us one wheel landing as a celebration act but got sort of entangled with a wing in the grass. But nobody can blame a pilot full of joy from returning home with his whole team unscathed, eh?

Hell of a mission. After some time off, i really enjoyed this and remembered, why i do this.

... Flyby having to RTB because of engine problems was the sign of bad things to come .
Although I kipped the Schwarm together (BTW Kudos to Bubi in Re joining us ) I did the stupidest thing I could have done .
As me and Krauss spotted the first red of the day I kicked the ruder just too damn hard , expecting a Hurri turn and getting a spin instead .
As I recovered (and that took a LONG while ) was completely surrounded by enemy contacts , I understood reforming is not an option , I was at that point 2K high with no friend insight .
I figured my best and only hope is to be aggressive .
I started chasing , booming and zooming on a lone Hurri who was pulling me farther and farther away and lower .
As long as I had eyes on him , I was fine .
Suddenly in one of the High Yo-Yos , I lost eyes on him ...
I managed to find him only when I was on the deck in Manstone bay .
I called out for help but it was too late for me ...
Nothing could save me now .
I am happy Krauss and Bubi did better and extremely sorry fro my conduct .
KIA ... :(

Today I flew as Katschmarek to Ofw. Ape. I am able to confirm him hitting a Hurricane off Deal. The E/A was then trailing black smoke. So it probably went down.
I also can confirm a kill of another Hurricane south of Dover by HG HuffDuff.
It was a great mission today - several kills for no losses, with just one A/C damaged.
I landed safely on the Gartenzaun.

I can confirm Maple's kill.

"Achtung!" Shouts Staffelkapitain Reinhart into 4 Staffel's barracks. "Grab a bite and be in the briefing tent in 20 minutes." We all agree he's a bit more coherent today than yesterday. "24 hours and a lot of coffee have done him well but I bet he can't wait to get to altitude and on oxygen" I laugh. "HA! Sure but nothing will erase the horrors he's seen and done." Shouts Casca from across the room. We all belt out laughing as we recall Reinhart's last promiscuous endeavor. For some reason the 'Save Monique' fund hasn't managed to collect any actual funds yet. Only gum wrappers and laughs. I'll keep you updated.

We make our way to the mess and grab some eggs and toast. Seems we're short of meat today. My hunch is 5 staffel beat us to it.

Unenthusiastically we make our way to the briefing tent which is close to the flight line. As we approach it's clear that the other two Staffels in the Gruppe are already there and we, once again, are the last ones to the party. As soon as the last Tiger was under the tent, Reinhart let out another obnoxiously loud, "ACHTUNG!"

"Damn" I thought. "He must know we went out again last night". "What do you think has him wound up so tight?" I asked the guys. Someone said, and I think it was the normally quiet Javelina, "Gonnorrhea." That was it. The whole Gruppe lost it and it wasn't until Gruppenkommandeur Pitti called us to attention that we managed to get our act together.

Pitti began the briefing, "Today's mission is a loose escort of Stukas to a convoy currently moving in the Thames Estuary. This isn't a close escort like the last few sorties, we only need to be within a decent proximity of the bombers. This morning we knocked out their radar so they should be blind. We'll head around North Foreland and try to stay feet wet. Rendevous at Calais and we'll head over together. Any questions? Good. Stay fast. Stay aggressive. Happy hunting men." In unison we shouted, "Ja Vol" and went off to our respective planes. Takeoff was uneventful as all 3 Staffels took to the skies like eagles. Soon we were over Calais and grouped up. Pitti gave the order and off we went to hunt Tommy.

As we approached Indian territory and our senses began to heighten I looked over to my right from the 3 position in our schwarm and saw Staffelkapitain Reinhart contrailing. "Wait," I thought. "We're only at 5km." Just then Maple came over the comms, "Reinhart you're streaming fluid!"

"Damn!" shouted our staffelkapitain. "I'm Havanna Havanna. Bear take the lead." The Staffelkapitain Split-S'ed for home and informed schwarm 2 of the situation. I did not have the proper frequencies to communicate with schwarm 2 or the other Staffelkapitains. Maple, Hindsight, and I were on our own. Less than a minute later, we spotted large gaggles of contacts directly over North Foreland. It soon became apparent there were simply too many planes in the air for them all to be friendly. I gave the order to climb at combat settings and continue W. This put us behind the enemy planes as we entered a a gentle left-hand descending turn and successfully bounced a flight of Hurricanes climbing to the E, opposite our original course. "Gunsights on, safeties off" I called just before we ripped through the formation. I let a long burst loose into the leading Hurricane and landed many good hits. We pulled up into a high left-hand yo-yo to repeat the attack but it wasn't necessary. It was clear my target had been hit significantly. I pulled up to his side and watched him slide his canopy back and climb out of his hopeless crate. I noticed several holes in his fuselage that could only have come from my 20mm's. This poor bastard's markings were KW-N. I didn't see his chute open but I hope it did. Surely he would have survived had it opened as we were very close to if not directly over North Foreland.

After this second pass, Maple became separated and much lower than us. Maple called "Horrido" and I saw his victim splash where he described. The pilot did not get out. Hindsight and I climbed to the E and extended to gain altitude. We were at 5k when the Hurricane pilot had bailed and there were many contacts above us. "This is quite a high fight." I thought to myself.

Not long after Maple scored his kill, he was hit himself and was forced to ditch. "Damn. I don't think our ASR will get to him before Tommy does" I muttered to myself.

We flew to nearly mid-channel before we turned around. We made sure we were clear and headed back into the fight. At 6.5km we began an easy left hand turn out over the bay looking for targets of opportunity. As we straightened out heading towards France and contemplating our next decision, I noticed two contrailers slightly lower than us but certainly following us.

It soon became clear they were a pair of Hurricanes and for some reason were giving chase to us far above their effective ceilings. At least compared to 109's. Having spotted them very early, I ordered Hindsight to bank left but not to make it look intentional. I intended for them to follow me but they stayed together and stayed on Hindsight. It didn't really matter. The goal was to make them choose and they did. I turned back into them hoping for a deflection shot and was honestly surprised when they didn't break as I came into their side. I hadn't planned on that and hadn't gained enough E to pull a steady shot and so just sent a few tracers across their noses.

That got their attention! From then on it was one big Thach weave as we drug them across the sky, slowly but surely getting them closer to France and away from any potential help. At times we neared 8km. We knew the Hurricanes were stuck in the fight now with few opportunities to disengage. They'd come looking for a fight and we were damn sure going to give it to them. They were a good pair though and offered few opportunities for us to get a solution. I have a feeling the lead Hurricane of this flight was the one they call "The Golden Boy." They say he's a damn good stick and this pilot sure proved to be. He's not a British national though, maybe Polish or Slovakian. I believe it was him and his wingman that had tried to find their stricken squadron mate yesterday off the IoW just as their friend stalled out. Had Scannon not called them out, Casca and I may have been in trouble. The fight ensued and 10 minutes went by with neither side landing hits.

Finally, I was able to feint a dive to avoid a head-on with the Hurricane trailing Hindsight. His pursuer stayed on his tail as I pulled up from his 12 o'clock low and fired a burst into his underside. I saw 20mm's land along his left wing root and tail section. "Hits hits hits!" I yelled. We knew then that even if nothing vital was hit. That Hurricane would be a liability with a reduction in speed. Soon he dove away and I gave chase to ensure he was truly diving away and not just feinting a retreat. I had to throttle back to keep from over shooting in the dive. Hindsight called out that his wingman was rolling in on me. Just as I was getting a good solution I asked, "How close is he?" and in that same moment I saw tracers fly past my left wing. The next burst from the Hurricane landed on my left wing and I slammed the throttle forward and escaped. I ended up with 2 bullet holes in my left wing but the aircraft responded like nothing had happened.

The Hurricane that had fired on me disengaged after I broke off his wingman and Hindsight and I extended to gain altitude again. We headed down the English coast towards Folkestone after we regained our altitude and once again we set out to hunt Tommy. Just as we passed Dover, Gruppenkommandeur Pitti came over the radio, "All pilots, Havanna Havanna." Hindsight and I vectored for Marquise-Ost. As we arrived over the field, Pitti ordered us to fly cover as 5th and 6th staffels landed respectively. They did so and we covered as 2nd schwarm of the 4th staffel landed. Hindsight and I were the last of the Tigers to set down. As I shut my engine down, Reinhart came up to me and asked what had happened to Maple. I shook my head solemnly. War is Hell.

Took off leading 3rd schwarm of 5th staffel, we rendezvoused over Calais and flew towards Manston.
I saw multiple contacts over Manston and reported this to our staffel-fuhrer, instead of engaging we of 3rd schwarm broke off and went higher, in the action I lost my schwarm..
So I went for the bombers north of Manston to give ‘em cover, hooked up with a 109 with white 20 markings for a while, but since they were on a different frequency, that didn’t do my any good. So over the bombers I reported vicious British fighters to our Staffel-fuhrer. In the commotion I took shots at 3 different brown aircrafts who were popping up in front of me like honeybees, boy I gave them hell, All 3 were hit!! At least 1 went down.
At the end I saw a Hurricane going for one of our Stukas and I shot his radiator to pieces, the markings on his crate started with KW, He didn’t wanna give in and asked for assistance from his buddies, for sure he came, cause I was on my own. One of them shot my fuel tank and it caught fire, so now came the usual sequence; jettison canopy/ bail out/ land in the water/ get the Dinghy afloat/ row ashore/ POW interrogation and so on..
No medals, no glory, no fame, just a box of hankies.

Assembled with Casca Javelina and Chumleigh on the airfield after attempting to resolve radio whisper issues, could only whisper to chumleigh but no direct communication to the rest of the flight and this proved to be detrimental. Maintained slot 4 position through countless left rotational patterns until we were finally given the approval to proceed west. Our orders seemed to be a bit of a mystery... escort Ju-87's to North Foreland...after that it was not clear (at least to me through info that was trickling down). At Manston many enemy fighters were encountered. Casca/Jav pressed home an attack....Chumleigh and I unfortunately became separated with the initial infiltration of so many contacts, particulary a pair of spits that passed underneath us and initiated an immelman to gain a positional advantage... extending higher and breaking off a tight turn gained sufficient separation but that's when I lost Chumleigh. I could not reacquire visual but maintained a vigil above waiting to vector to a rally point...but we weren't able to get to one.
My comms were out but I could listen and climbed high into contrails getting ready to vector to any area in a dive. Finally some good information....ships were the intended target and they were highly visible just off the Manston peninsula. I vectored that way and flew over the ships at altitude, didn't see much going on and then reversed. Casca called out "dragging a spit" so I descended to 3500m looking for a good bounce opportunity but moments later the attacker pulled off and vectored away. It was easy to see the groups of Ju-87s at this point with the largest gaggle heading straight for the Manston peninsula...they were being marauded as the amount of tailgun tracer spewing out was lit up like a fireworks display. I dropped in with several zooming passes looking for a gun solution on numerous attacking aircraft but these planes were simply tight turning and pressing with very little extension or predictable straight flight... a few snapshots was all I could muster..... then two bandits jumped on me and I proceeded to hit the deck and try and get some separation..... controls were disabled and my aircraft entered a climbing attitude making me a much easier target. I was in trouble and decided to bail but was pk'd after blowing the hatch as the rounds simply kept pouring into my aircraft.
