Today i was filling in for Esri in swarm 1. As we took of we cirkled the airfield for a couble of minutes until the whole staffel was up, then we formed up over the bombers and started to zigzag over them

When they were dropping their bombs we flew about the area and spotted some spitfires flying past us, so we started to dive for them but ofcourse the turned and we climbed again but then i noticed i had a spitfire on me, i did some avasive manuvers and he did get a few hit in but he was quickly off me again becourse he was swarmed by 109's and i even think i saw a 110. I tryed to form up with my swarm but spot a hurricane flying alone i dive on him but dont get any hits and after a bit of fighting i realize me and Atriedes are fighting the same guy, after some more fighting we get lost from each other and nothing was really gained on the hurri so Atriedes go to find Boyezee that is asking for help while i once more try to find the hurri with no luck and then i try to form up with my swarm, but i soon spot the hurri behind me trying to climb with my. While asking for help and trying to find my swarm i managde to lose the hurri and find my two buddies.

We then move over to the Stukas that are now heading home, to see that they are being attacked, we dive after the hurricanes and boyezee get some hits in, i managde to line up a GREAT shot on one starting to climb but completly mess it up and shoot a bunch of cannon off to the left of his wing, i climb up and as i start coming down again i see that he is now on boyezee's tail, i dive on him and he starts to climb with boyezee i can see Atriedes is allso coming in for him, i get much the same lineup on him but this time i mess it up again and shoot off to the right, enoyed as i look back i can see that he tried to follow me back up which resulted in him stalling i swing my plane backround and dive again, this time getting an even better linup as he is slightly turning to the right i lead the target and pull the trigger for then to see a bunch of flames and Atriedes exclaim in surprise and the hurricane goes down.

We do a bit more fighting over the stukas but nothing really happens until i see a spitfire diving on Atriedes i put on WEP and start to follow him, i know i dont have long until he will reach Atriedes and start firing which would destoy him, but i only have machineguns so i have to get really close and i thought that i might have a tail but could simply not chech for the risk of loosing the spitfire and killing Atriedes, i start getting closer and must consentrate not to fire until i am close enough, after what seemed to be ages i agreed that i was close enough and shot a salvo, the spitfire broke EMIDIETLY i must have hit him, and we followed him, after a couble of second of fighting we were level i was getting close to him and he suddenly whent inverted and did a halfloop towards the water, unfortunetly he was not high enough and drowned the spit.

We were told to RTB so we the swarm met up and flew home. As we were landing i forgot to check if my gears were actuelly working and ofcourse now that i do not check theyr not i had to bellyland... but it was a soft landing and only the prob got bent.

I led 3rd schwarm today, and my rustiness from being on leave showed at the worst time. Takeoff went smoothly enough, and 3rd of 5./ orbited our field at 1000 meters (roughly) to gain a safety separation from the other schwarms; all in a left-turn orbit. I kept the 3rd too long in our orbit and we had a greater separation from the 1st of 5./ than I'd have liked. The 3rd arrived in the target area over the docks of Dover where many bogeys were sighted. We began maneuvering for position, and while doing so my rust showed through as I tried to gain SA. Eventually I found Bubi's 6 and directed him to take the lead, as he had eyes on some bogeys. Spits. While trying to gain a favorable attack position, I in following Bubi did not see that I had company, and my plane took a few hits from-something-not-Luftwaffe. I dove away, quickly accelerating to and through 700 kph. I trided to ease my recovery through trim, but the plane was unresponsive, and soon the right wing separated itself. Nothing to do but try to bail out. I tried desperately to through myself clear of the ...BOOM!! My great speed carried me deep into British soil. Thanks to Bubi for the assist in sorting things out,and taking lead after my demise. Thanks to Krass for his effective harrying of the RAF locals (Spitfires). Thanks to Lee for keeping in contact with his rotte fuhrer (Krass) through all the crazy maneuvering. I was the only casualty of the 5./ today, against three victory claims for the staffel. Not too bad, considering. 3rd of 5./ is a fighting team.

Name: Malarky
Rank: Gefreiter
Unit: 4./JG26
Aircraft: BF-109 E-3
Markings: White 7
Aerodrome: Marquise East
Status: Performed an emergency landing in a field somewhere between Calais and Wissant. Water radiator perforated, oil gasket blown, governor failure. Once on the ground, air screw was damaged. Otherwise, the plane is intact. Pilot is also intact, save for a slight knock on the head as a result of the landing.

(Scroll down for the tl;dr version)

I still remember what was going through my head that morning. A strange mix of excitement coupled with crippling anxiety.

It was my first real sortie. Forget Flugzeugführerschule, Jagdfliegerschule, Waffenschule, and the rest of the two prior years of training. Mein Gott, this was the real deal! We were battling Tommy in the skies over Britain, and I had to give it my all. If I didn't, it would mean my death.

I had just been attached to II Gruppe, 4th Staffel, of Jagdgeschwader 26 - regrettably, only a day after what everyone was referring to as Adlertag, or "Eagle Day". I wasn't sure if I should have been grateful or disappointed by the fact that I'd missed it. It might have been a good opportunity to prove myself in the eyes of the others. On the other hand, staring at the crate I was supposed to take into the skies the next day, my confidence took a sudden nosedive. This wasn't practice any more. People would be shooting back at me, and I would have to do what all fighter pilots did in the Luftwaffe - kill.

It was approaching noon, and after Adlertag, the men of II Gruppe had another mission - myself included. We were to escort some Stuka dive bombers across the channel. One group would attack Dover harbour, the other Deal. II Gruppe, along with some 110's from Zerstörergeschwader 76, would escort these Stukas to and from their target. Another group of 110s would launch a raid against Manston beforehand, to act as a distraction to the Tommies.

I climbed into the cockpit of my 109, an E-3 variant, and tried to calm myself down. My hands were shaking slightly, and I was already sweating. The sun beating down on us didn't help, either. I went through some scenarios in my head, trying to remember all that I learned in Waffenschule, but I couldn't really concentrate very well. Worried thoughts kept circling around in my head. Fear of being shot down, fear of screwing up somehow. Frankly, I was worried that I wouldn't even be able to manage take-off.

I can remember having a conversation with two other Gefreiters from 4th Staffel: Villiers and Obermann - two of the first pilots I'd gotten to know in my new squadron. They had a little more experience than I did being in Jagdgeschwader 26, and I'd mentioned my concerns to them beforehand, worried that I'd get chewed out by a senior officer if I'd mentioned it to someone like the Gruppenkommandeur or our Staffelkapitän instead.
They'd told me about how they'd been in the same situation before, and that it was something you get used to. With real-world "practice" comes a good fighter pilot. I just had to remember what I'd learned in fighter school, stick to my Rottenführer, and keep my six clear. After a few days, I'd get over the anxiety, they said.

With how I was feeling right at that moment, I wasn't so sure.

I looked ahead of me just in time to spot planes from 6th Staffel taking off, ready to rendezvous with the Stukas. Some time later, 5th Staffel was up next. Eventually it was time for 4th Staffel to take to the skies. All the while, I was prepping my engine, and warming it up. The plane was ready for take-off. I just wasn't sure whether or not I was.
I was to be in Schwarm 1 today, led by Hauptgefreiter Javelina. Obergefreiter Martinjas would follow him as number 2. Gefreiter Villiers would be number 3, as well as my Rottenführer, while I trailed in the back as number 4. We all taxi'd onto the runway, in position for take-off.

Villiers called out, "Three, rolling". I waited a second or two, and then pushed my throttle up, accelerating down the runway. I clung to the stick tightly, beads of sweat rolling down my face already. And we hadn't even seen Tommy yet! I constantly applied some right rudder, making sure to compensate for the engine torque. Despite a few bumps whilst rolling on the ground, the take-off went fairly smoothly. Before I knew it, I was wheel's up. I breathed a sigh of relief, and called out "Four, wheel's up". Raising my gear, I moved in behind the other members of Schwarm 1, and we proceeded to gain some altitude, and rendezvous with the Stukas.

The view from up high was magnificent. I was constantly checking to make sure I was still in formation with the rest of Schwarm 1, and of course checking for Tommy, but when I had the time, I snuck a few glances outside, looking back at the French coast, and out across the English Channel. Aside from the thrills, it was views like this that made flying such a joy. It actually helped take some of the edge off. I was somewhat more relaxed when I was up in the air, and elated that I had even managed to get off the ground without making a fool of myself.

Eventually, we had made it across the Channel, admittedly a bit late to escort the Stukas there. We hoped to meet them on the way back, instead.
There was no time for glorious views, here. My eyes were glued to the skies around me, in search of the Tommies. Some distance East of Dover, we came in contact with what appeared to be a Spitfire, diving down on us from a furball some ways away. The scoundrel dived in from out of nowhere, it seemed! Before I knew it, he was spraying lead in Villiers' direction. The bastard had already done a number on my Rottenführer.

"I'm done! Bailing out!," called out Villiers. His plane disappeared somewhere below me. I can only assume that he made it out safely - but if he did, he was probably captured by the Tommies. I cursed quietly, disappointed that I didn't do enough to help as his wingman, and kept my eyes open for the Spitfire that had taken a dive. By now, Javelina and Martinjas had broken off, and we were dogfighting.

I tried to keep a visual on the Tommy, but amidst the panic, and my heightening anxiety, I lost track of him a few times. Eventually, Javelina and Martinjas pulled away, and I followed. What happened exactly is a bit of a blur, but I can only assume that the Spitfire was either destroyed, or fled. Either way, I was still alive.

In all of the excitement, however, I neglected to pay attention to my gauges. After our little skirmish, I ended up perforating my water radiator, and had to return to base. I cursed a little louder this time, banging my fist against the side of my cockpit. I then cursed even louder, since my hand now ached.
I was disappointed that I wouldn't be around to give Tommy a bit more of a thrashing. On the other hand, I was also slightly relieved. It was an excuse to return to base, and I wouldn't find myself plummeting to the ground in a massive fireball.

I bid adieu to Javelina and Martinjas, prayed that Villiers had bailed out safely, and turned towards France, making my way across the English Channel. I'd had plenty of altitude to make it back to France safely. By the time I was feet dry, my oil gasket had blown, and oil was splattered across my windscreen. The plane's engine was shaking like mad, and I have to say, it gave me a bit of a headache. The relief I'd had earlier was gone, and anxiety crept back in, as I worried whether or not I could even land this thing safely. Or whether or not it would suddenly spontaneously explode somehow.

Glancing around me, I eventually spotted a large clearing nearby. I might have been somewhere between Calais and Wissant, but in my panic, I couldn't really tell. I focused on keeping my plane steady, and coasting slowly down towards the field. Before I touched the ground, I quickly remembered to pull the emergency gear extension handle back, but by that point it was a bit late. I felt a big bump, and I banged my head against the top of my cockpit, as the plane "landed" in the field, and began skidding across the grass, slowing to a stop. The propeller had caught the ground, and the air screw was ruined.

The plane eventually creaked slowly to a stop... and then everything was silent. I sat there in the cockpit, grasping the flightstick firmly, eyes wide. I was a bit shaken by the whole ordeal (and a little disoriented from that bump to the head - not to mention the headache). Looking out around me, stunned, I slowly opened my canopy up, and leaned back in my seat with a sigh. For a second, I marvelled in the fact that I was still alive. I hadn't gotten any kills, but mein Gott, I was still alive! And I'd even brought my crate back to France! Aside from the engine (and perhaps the gears), the plane was more-or-less intact. I certainly had a story to write home about, now! (I considered maybe omitting the bit with the emergency landing, to spare mother the heart-attack).

I had noticed a couple of airfields nearby in my descent. I was hopeful in the fact that they spotted me as I went down, and would have sent crews out to retrieve me and the aircraft. At the time, I didn't feel any need to even step out of my plane. For what felt like an eternity, I simply sat there, head tilted back, trying to ignore the ache in my head as I stared up at the blue, cloudy sky. Birds chirped around me, the wind whistled through the tall grass, and it was a moment of peace and calm amidst the turmoil. I simply sat there, taking it all in, waiting for retrieval to arrive from the nearby airfields...

----------

tl;dr version: Was number 4 of Schwarm 1. Took off along with Javelina, Martinjas and Villiers. Gained altitude, flew across the channel, arrived late to escort Stukas to the target, but hoped to rendezvous on the way back. Flew underneath a furball, and was engaged by one Spitfire, which shot down Villiers. A brief dogfight ensued, Spitfire is assumed to have been shot down or have fled. Blew my radiator after the skirmish, and had to rtb. Performed an emergency landing in a field somewhere between Calais and Wissant. No kills, no enemy planes damaged.

Upon takeoff, my plane mysteriously disappeared as my wheels left the ground. No message was displayed as to my whereabouts and the Bermuda Triangle was no closer than 10,000 km. Perhaps aliens...

When I got another plane, I was able to quickly take of and meet my schwarm as they completed their first orbit of Marquise East. We flew toward the Dover - Deal area across the channel. After the second rotte broke off to engage Spitfires, Javelina and I began our hunt. We didn't see very many contacts, but chased a few Spitfires. I never had an opportunity to fire on any of them and expended no ammunition. Javelina and I got separated when we dove on a Spitfire and I was cleared to take a shot. I was unable to obtain a firing solution, so I climbed back up to avoid danger.

The call came to return to base and I headed off and landed at Marquise East. No damage to my aircraft, no rounds fired, and I was ok... ready to fight another day.

A Short while ago Werner Mölders asked me to put a team together from all over the Luftwaffe to get 6./ZG76 back up in the saddle after its heavy losses during earlier stages of this war.
So I did, only the very best fighter pilots could apply, because not everyone is up for the task.
Soon applicants started to pour in out of nowhere; I had to send most back out of the door since most didn’t qualify.
In the mean time Boyezee from my old squadron was appointed leader to the 5th, everyone in and beyond the Luftwaffe congratulated him, I was surprisingly put up for a similar task but only within the elite of the fighter arm, the Bf- 110- zerstörer. No flowers here, the whole 26th won’t even talk to us no more, the chosen from above.
Poor souls can’t help it they aren’t good enough to fly with us, jealousy is there and I can't blame them.

After the formalities it was time to start up our fine twin engines. Taxi, take off, in formation, all went smoothly!
We escorted an armada of Stukas over to Dover and Deal, I’d spotted some fighter escort from the little league here (Bf-109’s).
All of the sudden we were in the middle of the enemy’s heart, Spitfires and Hurricanes more than a man can count. At this point I started to worry a little bit as I’d remembered a conversation earlier with Galland over this when he'd warned me the 110 attracts Spits and Hurries like honey to bees..
Thank gott they had no eye for us, in the mix our flight got more or less separated but in these birds it’s easy to regroup - no second bird is alike! I had fallen back and gave lead to Wolf so I formed up on him and at this point he went into attack, all of us followed him in and with a short burst he put a Hurricane to fire as he hit his fuel tank in the process. Abschuss!!

We didn’t want to push our luck and went RTB. Before we passed mid-channel some pesky Spitfires started to harass us, Dive dive! The Spits were still on us, tracers passed my port wing. We dove away in the clouds and we’d lost them sending them back home empty handed.
Somehow the Spit or the speed had taken away my ailerons as my crate didn’t respond to my commands.. In my approach to the home plate I had lost all controls over the aircraft, only my rudders were still working. I’d asked Hans in the rear seat if he was OK to parachute over Calais-Marck as he replied with jawohl, I'd already jettisoned my canopy and with an airspeed of 200km at 1000m I jumped out, the parachute opened in a blink of an eye but I couldn’t see my rear gunner anywhere, I think he got stuck with his foot somewhere in the aircraft. Sadness filled my heart as I had to send a letter to this young chap’s parents now… Anyway, I’d landed right next to our airbase as I could see the rest of my guys coming in for their final approach. No aircraft losses but mine for 6./ZG76. Watch out Tommies; we’re coming, we’re coming!!!

Okay the first sortie for the mighty bf110 was very successful even thou we were very under-trained at the moment. We all got airborne and followed Pitti's order of look after the stukas over Dover when we got feet dry over deal area we spotted lots of contacts mainly 109s. We orbited over the combat area at about 6k snowwolf got separated and so did grey but found us again and formed on me, he then past the lead over to me. Archie, who was with me on my six as i spotted a very suspicious looking set of contacts, so we dove down about a 30 degree dive to them i identified them to be hurricanes so i pick the target and went in at 550 kph pulled the trigger and the 4 mgs rattled away at the target which erupted into a ball of fire and he dove away. Me and Archie climbed back up and saw spitfires so we ran to france, they struggled to keep up and about 3/4 over the channel they then called it off and me and Archie rtb i then had the launcher crash as i went about feet dry over france

Claimed: 1 Hurricane Probable <--- Osprey Pretty sure a ball of fire is confirmed ;)

It was my first combat mission.

While in sortie in pilots mesa I was assigned to swarm 3 as backup pilot. Having nice chat with fellow pilots I got another assignment to swarm 2, and was welcomed warmly.

While preparing for takeoff mein Kampfpilot senses were tingling and soon after a strange phenomena occurred which caused a minor damage to the plane. Fortunately there was a second Bf109 E-4 with Black 2 markings also some cans of black paint, and in a little to no time there was a second Bf109 E-4 Black 22 takeoff attempt which was successful. With a glimpse of an eye I saw airfield staff all happily waving and crying, screaming some Überlatives which I couldn't hear. Some even fainted with hands on top of their heads lying on the ground.

While in air I had to regroup with swarm 2 and form a formation, after some time passed they decided to join me as they probably saw my superior flight skills and maybe it was a faster solution.

While in formation we headed into the clouds and after I came out of it I was still in formation, after few minutes of radio chat we found out that there was one unusual swarm with one extra plane flying with them. After that I got an order to find swarm 2.

In my lonely struggle I found some planes above England, after some research they appeared to be 3 Hurricanes. I didn't accept their challenge, because I had my orders that I had to follow. Lucky day for those Hurricane pilots... lucky day indeed.

I came across some Stuka fighters so I decided to join them, while performing Stuka Dance at 5km altitude I lost left flap but still was able to maneuver and had 60% control of the plane. In the process of testing 109 durability I heard in the radio "I have too low energy!" and in my head I was thinking "Oh well... MY 109 engine is splitting atoms right now..."

After that we got an order to return to France, in my way back I saw 3 planes swimming approx 400m away from the coastline, I waved to them then landed on a airfield with few scratches on my 109 but it will fly again.

After that I got assigned new aircraft with number Black 6 and honored with 5./JG26 unit appointment.

Took off from Marquise West leading schwarm 2 with TAC and Bear. Orzel had computer problems and couldn’t get up. We were very late getting off due to all of the computer and aircraft issues. Rendezvoused with bombers and went ahead into England. Immediatley got engaged and got a few bursts off. Got after a Spitfire and took a few hits from his Buddy. Saw the smoke from a radiator hit and dove away toward France. Engine gave up and not enough altitude to get back to France. Ditched just off the coast next to ASR ship.

Led 2. Schwarm, Dub, StaryMruk and Zero, a rookie pilot who hardly had time to unpack his kit before being thrown into the action. The Schwarm didn't make the rendezvous with the Stukas, due a takeoff hitch and a little trouble forming up.

We eventually arrived over Dover in a very loose formation and soon reports of contacts were coming in and it wasn't long before we were well and truly seperated. I got into a low level scrap with a Hurricane that was attacking the returning Stukas. Another 109 joined the fray, and it turned out to be Stary. He got a deadly burst into the enemy aircraft. I saw the pilot bail and confirm this kill by Stary at 12.23 over the Channel off Deal.

It was time to turn back, Stary had a coolant leak and was already on his way. I heard that Dub was also gliding back after his engine had seized and Zero heading home without ailerons. Halfway to France I spotted a contact and turned towards him, not id'ing him as a Hurricane until we were virtually passing each other. With the Tommy gleefully turning onto my tail, I nosed down and quickly put distance between us. I saw him break off and turn back as the French cliffs loomed high. I returned to base without further incidence.
