Mission Date: 14th august 1940

Name: Krass
Rank: Hauptgefreiter
Unit: 5./JG26
Aircraft: Bf109 E4
Markings: Black 6
Aerodrome: Hydrequent
Status: RTB

5 Staffel Mess, 13th august 1940 11.23 pm.

"..progress my freind.. the Luftwaffe needs to move forward and the E4 will give us an edge.."
"I dont agree Krauss, the E1 is our finest plane.. auto prop pitch? Scheisse I tell you! "
And with that, Hauptgefreiter Lee launches his flying boot towards me. Ducking instinctively, the spinning boot hurtles towards the large bald head of Feldwebel Helga. Time froze. We froze.
Time to run...

Hydrequent Airfield, 14th august 1940.

A glorious summer day greets us as we climb into our 109 E4's. The ground crew beaver around our planes as the Fench air fills with the sweet sound of the V12 DB 601. Today, we are on an important escort mission: Our brave bombers are to attack the enemy in Dover port. Our 3 109 Staffeln from JG26 together with help from the 110's of 6./ZG76 will deliver a crushing blow to the tommies. As I pull my straps tight over my flying suite, I hear Hauptgefreiter Lee shouting at his ground crew..
"..and this auto prop pitch crap better work properly or else..!"

Soaring high above the French coast, the 3 schwarms of 5 Staffel begin the short journey across the channel. Below us, the black shapes of our bomber formations head menacingly towards the glinting white cliffs of Dover. Our schwarm today is lead by Veteran pilot Unteroffizier Flyby, with Hauptgefrieter Bubi on his wing. Myself and Lee are in the second rotte. Soon, we are over enemy territory. Cruising at 5k, we spot the first enemy contacts almost co-alt.

With Flyby and Bubi engaged, we seem to be in a nest of Spitfires. With Lee covering my six, I begin my attack on a Spit who is now almost in range. With no energy advantage though, my options are limited. I try a few deflection shots but he sees me in time and begins a steep left hand dive. After a dance for position I notice his freind is also nearby. With Lee still behind me I begin another spiralling dance with the second tommie and unfortunately lose Lee in the confusion. Locked in with the two Spitfires, it takes all my energy to twist into an advantageous position. More deflection shots as I hear over the radio Flyby has a Spit on his tail and has dived too steeply.. his last message was cut off abrubtly mid sentence. I try not to dwell on his fate as Bubi is also toying with two Spits and Lee has one on him as well. Out numbered, and out of precious energy, the two spits are now begining to pull me in. I decide quickly the only way out is a steep dive for safety. Hitting 650kmh I leave the Spitfires, and one of my ailerons, in my wake.

The call from the Gruppenkommandeur comes to RTB. Below me I see the bomber formations returning to France, and I pull in above them as cover to the French coast. The radio bursts into life.. Lee's radiator has been hit by a lucky tommie bullet and he is struggling to keep the 109 in the air before land fall. With luck the boats will soon pick him up. Back over the French coast, I re-group with Hauptgefreiter Bubi and we land back at our home base to join the returning staffel kameraden.

Climbing down from our battle worn 109's, we head straight for our comms room to find any info on our missing schwarm pilots. Nothing yet on Flyby. Hopefully he will be able to escape quickly from the tommie clutches. I hear they make prisoners dance naked round a funny pole or something. With bells and ribbons. Sick.

Hauptgefreiter Lee is already on a rescue boat. I can save the news of a rumored 109 with automatic oil and water radiators for a later debate..

Nice narrative Krass. You have a flair for it.
Who gets Flybys beautiful wife?
I mean gets to write to her of his MIA status, yes yes, that what I meant.

Keroth - Spitfire - Crashed into the sea east of Deal

My first mission as the new Staffelkapitan of the mighty 5th, after some technical issues (had to re-start game as we spawned in) we took off from Hydrequent and circled the airfield before heading to Calais to meet with the Stuka's.

We made first contact with the enemy over Dover at 5k when a flight of Spitfire's crossed our path and engaged us, we danced with a Spitfire for several minutes with no positive outcome, I fired and registered a few hits but nothing more, as the Spitfire went below 2k I called off the fight and climbed to re-establish contact with my Schwarm.

As I climbed I found myself sitting directly behind a flight of Hurricanes, I fired a good burst into the rear Hurricane putting him into a spin before dis-engaging in the face of superior enemy numbers and heading to Dover to re-form with 1st Schwarm. After forming up we spotted the Stuka's heading home being harrased by enemy fighters, we dove to engage and I scored good hits on a Hurricane with a deflection shot, the Hurricane fell to the sea trailing smoke and coolant however I did not witness him crash.

It was every man for himself at this point with enemy fighter swirling all over the place, out of cannon now I fired machine guns at a Hurricane resulting in a fuel leak, as we lined up to further damage him I noticed him turn back for home, I called for the Schwarm to dis-engage and allow him to rtb, he was out of the fight and we are not barbarians although my honour was not immediately rewarded as his wingman fired at me before he lost energy and fell away from our climb.

As we turned our attention to this Hurricane a Spitfire appeared from nowhere and damaged my aircraft with a good shot as we merged, however my aircraft was ok to continue the fight and the news came across the radio that Keroth had set fire to a Hurricane with Atreides confirming the kill in an excited voice, Horrido!

Moments later Keroth cleared the tail of Atreides, sending the Spitfire crashing to the sea, both Atreides and myself confirm the kill. The call came to RTB so we re-formed and headed back to base.

A good mission for 5th Staffel, one aircraft lost (but not to enemy fire) for 3 confirmed kills, the pilots of our Staffel did a great job with Stig & Flyby leading their Schwarms with skill and calm under enemy fire.

I had been telling Hitler for over a year, since my first flight in an Me-262, that only Focke Wulf Fw-190 fighter production should continue in conventional aircraft, to discontinue the Me-109, which was outdated, and to focus on building a massive jet-fighter force. - Galland

Adlerangriff. Mission 27: 14th August

AAR Pictorial Narrative:
We missed our window for escorting but did see the ME110s who we had to visually ID as friendlies. Saw lots of gaggles of Spits up at high altitude which made for poor dogfight conditions. We were outnumbered by over 10x but we engaged a close flight which had bounced us due to superior speed and altitude. This divided our schwarm into rottes and we lost our tactical offensive ability. Soon we were forced to dive out to safety or attempt a turn fight against superior numbers and agile angle fighters. It's better to live to fight another day. All returned home save one, our schwarm fuhrer whose a/c was over stressed. I out ran my tormentors, but cheers to them for not being glory hounds all the way to France. Or maybe they don't carry the petrol for it as a performance gain. Regardless, cheers and good show Tommy.

Lessons learned are:
1. We did not get in place for our primary mission, so we should have gained superior altitude until such time as we are directed to our escort or ordered to another role. I was not aware of any further commands from staffel command.

2.' Staying at med to co-altitude and loitering over enemy combat areas is a recipe to be bounced, as we were.

3. We need to decide on a go, no-go set of criteria if we are not getting higher level direction.

4. Once my leader was out of commission, I instructed our broken up schwarm to RTB and form up ASAP. It turned out to be a rescue on of our beleaguered wingman who was being chased all the way to France (plucky bastage) . I managed to see a spit peel off as I got nearer, so he must have seen me. I did find Krass near home base and we landed together.

As wingman of Marleo in 2nd Schwarm of 6th Staffel we escorted Stukas to Dover and Deal. While being attacked by Spitfires the Schwarm seperated and I was looking for some enemies staying high. After RTB order I flew back and landed safely.

First mission with my glorious beast as we took off from the airfield heading towards the damned tommy land however as i was about to leave the scene because the bombers were heading home i had been strafed by a spit diving into the clouds to escape i had successfully gotten away and as i was limping back into white flag territory when a member of the 5th staffel decided to do a close fly by and as he flew off i knew that i was safe. Once i finally landed i knew the mechanics were not going to be happy with me as i had broken my aircraft a lot

Damn. Had a nice long report written up and by the time I went to hit submit it had to log me back in and I lost it all. Fuck me.

The short version is I flew as number 2 to Hypoxia in 2nd schwarm. We were the last to get up and headed to our assigned area of Dover. I lost Hypoxia early on in the engagement and played chess with multiple Spitfires and tried to keep them off the tails of the 110's and my own. Got the call from Pitti that Stukas egressing from Deal were getting hammered by Hurricanes and so I dove on them. My first pass I came in too hot and had to loop over. The 2nd pass I was still a little fast and didn't find a target. On the third I landed good hits on a Hurricane who rolled and peeled off the Stukas. Seconds later I was hit by fire from a Hurricane and I dove. The next burst got my rads. I kept running and began a gentle climb in which I jettisoned the canopy. After another burst or two the Hurricane let me go and I climbed until my DB gave out. Soon I was gliding. I ditched a few kilometers off the French coast but was rescued by ASR.

2nd Schwarm had trouble in forming up today. We split over England and I decided to just stay above Ju-87. I've heard from Stig he is engaged with Hurricane east of Deal and after few seconds I saw him low behind the bombers. Stig was doing firing passes on enemy and already bled out most of the energy from Hurry. All I had to do was to aim carfully at low & slow flying Hurricane which was trying to turn once more. I think I got some solid cannon hits on him. I pulled up and observed RAF pilot bailing out. Stig confirmed the kill at 12.23 east form Deal.
We decided to fly home and after few minutes my radiator blow up and my right wing cannon failed. It looks like I was shoot at by enemy plane, or hit by AAA. I didn't notice anything else but 109's flying around. Not a trace of enemy. Maybe one of 109's shot a short burst on me be a mistake..? I glided to French coast but didn't make it. I ditched close to the beach and was rescued by ASR.
I'm glad Zero made it home in his first ACR Campain misson!

Claimed: 1 Hurricane - Confirmed by Stig
A/C: Lost

Just joined the 4th Staffel on my first mission. Unlucky my first aircraft was in bad condition and I crashed during take off. Luckily pilot survived and jumped into one of the reserved planes. Did take off and flew heading Dover. Because of the huge delay couldn't catch up with the other guys from 4th Staffel. Somewhere near Dover did some dogfight with enemy Spitfire which ended in some damage of my Bf. Decided to cut the fight and RTB. On my way home I lost my engine and decided to bail out but... it was to late!
