I would say that it has improved quite a bit since it's release. Granted that's from second hand experience, as I did a lot of reading on subsim.com and the official forums when it released. I just remember reading that it was riddled with bugs, and needed quite a bit of work. I didn't buy it at the time as I was pretty irritated with Ubisoft's choice in terms of DRM.

So, fast forward to present time and the devs have done quite a bit of patching since release. Also, the DRM is gone and there are tons of mods out there for the game now days. If I'm not mistaken there is an unofficial patch with more bug fixes, but I could be thinking of another game. Also, I bought it on sale for 5 dollars, and then read that the disc version is more desirable than the Steam version for modding purposes, and so now I own both.

Either way if you're a fan of the sub sim genre, I'd have to recommend trying it again. Especially since you already own it. :D

Ah, cool. Yeah I got it fairly close to release, and wasn't even able to complete the tutorial because it was bugged, so I uninstalled it, put it back on the shelf and went back to playing SH3 and SH4. I'd be mighty tempted to reinstall though if modders have managed to salvage it because it does have some neat features.

You are moderator chief of this whole thing Bubi, you have a pile of permissions but I'm not done, I need to sort out admin, not moderator.

Just a heads up for anyone after SH5. You can get a UPlay key for the princley sum of 0.89p (1 euro)

http://www.fast2play.com/category/2703/ ... uplay-key/

You will need to download Uplay from Ubisoft and register the key provided and your ready to download the full game. This is the Gold version as well with a few extra subs and ships.

What we need is a step by step install and patch guide so that we are all on the same page.

I posted some info in that direction, but haven't spent the cycles yet myself. Has some here been successful yet?
