So is this like a reboot of Silent Hunter? I loved that game.

Not quite. Silent hunter was more a u-boot simulator. This is more a u-boot crew simulator afaik. It's focus is on crew management. I have backed it from the start and am quite excited about it. Release is planned for Q2 2018

Wouldn't be that quick on judging the sim aspect of it.
They already showed us game play calculating torpedo fire solutions. The question which of the games is the more realistic one still remains.
