INTRODUCTION.

Fall 2014

Following the Ukranian uprising that has been raging between government forces and Russian supported seperatists, relations between Russia and its southern neighbors are strained as Western sanctions draw a wedge between the western oriented countries along the Black Sea and the pro-Russian power block.

Tensions have now also rooted themselves in Georgia, who in addition to being Russia’s' southern neighbor and earlier opponent in the 2008 conflict, also have the territory of Abkhazia within it's borders- a self governed, Russian sympathetic self-claimed republic seated around Sukhumi in the western region of Georgia. Abkhazia is not recognized as a state by NATO andhave lately been openly supportive of Russia’s expansive posture and could destabilize the region even further.

The US, backed by NATO support have placed small deterrent and support force consisting personnel and equipment on bases in Georgia. The initial forces include 2 squadrons of F-15c Eagle air superiority fighters, 2 f-16 Falcon squadron equipped for anti-radar and close support operations and A-10c fighter wing, hauled back from the edge of being decommissioned for its awesome CAS power. Additionally these forces have full ground support and logistics as well as airborne tanking and AWACS support.

The Georgian Air Force operates a number of Su-25 close support aircraft as well as two squadrons of Mig-21's brought back to operational state due to the rising tension in the conflict.

This "peacekeeping" force have so far only succeeded in increasing the support for aggressive Russian nationalistic groups in the region, resulting in militant cells carrying out numerous attacks on Georgian control posts and communications as well as several large scale cyber-attacks aimed at the Georgian government.

These groups are believed to be supported by the Russian military with training, funding, equipment and personnel. Russia denies this fact and claims it wishes only to stabilize the region and protect its Russian speaking population. Furthermore, President Putin has declared that he sees the interference of Western forces in the region as a sign of aggression and have condemned it.

Although these attacks have been insignificant in physical damage- the psychological impact is felt across Georgia and many politicians and other public figures have demanded that Georgia must maintain a stronger military presence along its north-western axis.

After Georgian forces has begun interning suspected pro-Russian militants, Russia has marshaled a QRF just north of the Georgian border, claiming the need to protect their citizens from Georgian aggression.

Like in the previous conflict of 2008, Russia has stopped at the South-Ossetian border, either willingly or due to the blocking action of Georgian forces just south of the town of Tskhinvali. Diplomatic attempts at resolving the situation have either failed or stalled, and Georgia has called on NATO for assistance.

Should Russia decide to move its forces further into Georgia, the Georgian armor would not be able to put up long resistance, as the Russian forces are better equipped and more numerous. In addition, a vital NATO oil pipeline is routed through Georgia, and as such NATO has decided to render assistance.

The last few days have seen Allied fighters performing FAM-flights and small training operation within Georgia. Pilots are awaiting further tasking.

Mission 0.

Time: MONDAY 29th of September
Preflight brief: 19:00 London time.
Take off: When ready (19:30 London time at the latest)

NOTE: It is assumed that you have a BASIC understanding of the following.
-Start up- take off- and land the F-15
-How to cycle waypoints.
-Use radar at different ranges and elevations.
-Know how to switch between BVR-Vertical Scan Mode- And BORE. (At least BVR)
-Fire offensive weapons (aim-120=FOX 3, aim-7=FOX 1, aim-9=FOX 2, cannon=GUNS GUNS GUNS)
-Apply defensives (Flares, Chaff, ECM)

TONE: This will be a semi-serious/immersion type thing. Joking and fucking around is fine in the preflights- but when airborne we use radio dicipline. This is both for immersion and because we need to shut the hell up to hear what AWACS is saying;)

VERY IMPORTANT: You do NOT need to be good at any of the above. We are BEGINNERS enjoying this together. I'd just not like to spend the pre-flight telling people where to find their "start engines" button if you catch my drift. Don't feel ready yet? Do a couple more practice mission and join next time:)

PILOTS:
F-15:
Chevy 1: Redeye
Chevy 2: Robo
Chevy 3: Fang
Chevy 4: Sabre
Chevy 5: Broadsword
Chevy 6: Luke

MIG 21: TO be decided. Watch this thread.

BRIEFING:
US forces maintain a constant vigil, monitoring the Russians movement north of the Gori Valley. Russia has stated that it will not wage war on US forces; her dispute is with the Georgian government and her armed forces who have commited crimes against its ethnic Russian population and have instigated war-mongering as regards to Russias affairs in Ukraine- but western forces placing themselves knowingly in harms way do so at their own responsibility and risk.

USAF fighters will operate side by side with it's Georgian allies in the air- but no footsoldiers will be commited against Russia at this point.

Task: Escort AWACS codename "OVERLORD" as it takes off to monitor Russian air movement to the North.
Time on station: Approx 1 hour.

SIGN UP IN APPROPRIATE THREAD:)

NEW BRIEFING FOR MONDAY 29/9

The Campaign start will be postponed and training with instructor will take its place.
The reason for this is that Random has put a lot of effort into the first mission for the Mig-21 guys and he wont be able to make it.
Fret not; I will make a nice package for you gent's tonight.

I have spent some time teaching this to people- and hopefully after tonight- you elite Mig-killers can pay it forward.

Same mission time as before.
Preflight brief: 19:00 London time.
Take off: When ready (19:30 London time at the latest)
Duration: 1 hour ++.

In this session I will forcefeed you the following.
1. How to take off and land (ish)
2. How to turn on your radar and use it to scan for targets
3. How to navigate waypoints
4. How to decipher all the data displayed on the HUD and VSD (Vertical Situation Dispay/=Radar scope (or just radar)
5. How to operate the 4 principal targeting MODES and what situation to apply them ( BVR, Vertical Scan, Bore and Guns.)
6. How to interpret/read the RWR (Radar Warning Reciever- pronounced "RAW")
7. How to communicate and execise radio dicipline- which is essential as well as some basic TOPGUN terminology.

The session will be twofold:

Session A:)
1. We will light up, take off and fly through a series of waypoints in a mindblowing formation
2. We will scan and identify targets while the instructor pauses the game at intervals to explain the ropes
3. We will land without a single scratch.

Session B:)
1. We will spawn in pairs (always in pairs) around Georgia. All pair will be facing a number of unarmed enemy AC (And some friendlies- so you will have to know what is what in the radar.) We will proceed to blow the targets out of the sky while using phrases like "turn and burn baby/ I feel the need- the need- for speed/You can be my wingman any time (or never. Ever)/ Talk to me *insertcallsign*/take me to bed or lose me forever.

You MUST know how to operate the TDC cursor and TARGET select(Its the "mouse" you use to select targets in the VSD), "weapons cycle", and "next waypoint/airfield/target"- "Raise/lower radar elevation"

Show up. Be cool. Be awesome. Be a shit hot fighter pilot;)

Next time- we will learn BDM- Basic Defensive Maneuvers

"EYE FOR AN EYE"

Russia has lodged protests against NATO actions at the UN after the successful destruction of their EWR in South Ossetia, but they have not indicated that they will remove their forces from Georgian land, claiming that their citizens are still in danger.

In order to further reduce the situational awareness of the Russian forces and to reduce the effectiveness and threat of their air force, including the threat posed to NATO’s own aircraft, NATO commanders have decided to destroy the Russian A-50 operating in the area.

This action will depend on assets to draw away Russian fighters at the right time and send in F-15C’s at high speed to shoot down the A-50 as it’s skirting the edge of Russia’s S-300 umbrella.

Chevy:
Push from WP4 at low altitude. Call on ENFIELD to fly top cover and engage enemy threaths. Send your wingman to trail, and enter the valleys at WP5. Follow your waypoints at low altitude to sneak towards the A-50.
At WP11, you will be unmasked. You can climb out, or stay low depending on the SAM threats. The A-50 tracks from WP12 to WP13, and is escorted by a pair of Flankers. Re: DCS MODERN CONFLICT (F-15/MIG-21/etc) BRIEFING THREAD

Post by Redeye » Mon Nov 17, 2014 12:11 pm

Disclaimer: This post and ALL other posts in this thread is FICTION.

November 2014- Tiblisi.
"NATO and the UN has declared that the Russian ground forces position in South Ossetia in addition to airborne skirmishes has proven the entire region unstable. Russia responds that Western military buildup leaves them no choice but to stand fast in the face of growing tension. Russia further denies any intention of invading Georgia itself, but that every effort needed to protect etnic russians from the war-mongering Georgians will be taken.

The last few weeks have seen several engagements of NATO and Russian AC in the skies north over South Ossetia. NATO have reported taking down a Russian AWACS plane, some 8 Russian Fighters and and early warning and missile system. Russia on the other hand claims to have shot down 7 NATO aircraft, including four F-15's which have earlier never been shot down in air to air combat. The US denies such losses, but say that two F-16 were in fact shot down while performing recce missions in northern Georgia.

The US have no troops on the ground in Georgia, and according to the US government, that is the way things will stay. "The United states have pledged to support Georgia in face of aggression. We have proven that we will do just that. That does not mean that we will fight a full scale war on their behalf. The security of NATO assets come first. We have no interest or intention of war with Russia, but we will not stand by when our friends are threatened"

NATO has further declared that they will greenlight air strikes to cripple Russias ability to wage offensive warfare in the region.

Currently NATO has an expeditionary Air Force consisting of A-10's F-16's F-15 Eagles and Strike Eagles with support in the area. Additionally, the Royal Air Force has made it clear that Tornado attack aircraft has been earmarked for Georgian operations should they be required. Georgia itself have a limited air fleet consisting of Su-25 close support aircraft and a newly recommissioned Mig-21 squadron active in the Tiblisi area.

Facing this Coaltion Air Force are Russian Mig-29 and Su-27 fighters in addition long range strike, bomber and close support aircraft."

Situtation:

After the breakdown of the Tiblisi peacetalks of last month which the Russian delegate claimed the US showed "uncalled for show of barbaric brute force" by having a squadron of F-15 make not one, but three low level passes over the delegates transport as he disembarked, the Crisis of South Ossetia is still not resolved- though the Russian have shown sign of relenting. In an attempt to even the stakes at the bargaining table- the Bear again flexes its muscles as rifle and cannons shots echo in the Gori Valley."

Chevy and Ford will provide a defensive fighter screen over the fighting as A10's and F-16's softens up Russian forces currently engaging Georgian troops.
