Good mission, I missed the target but it's my fault, radar bombing on a moving target isn't acurate. For AAR I'm verry cautious, I wouldn't like to be missunderstood in giving my opinion.
First an AAR session during a mission can take 1/2 hrs more than the planned time.
Second the loadout with a centerline tanks is verry rare, or totally unusual for US F-16 in combat missions. Look out at pictures of operationnal aircrafts.
It's only my opinion, and not an obligation, of course I always be pleased to fly with you whatever the loadout.

Taking AG weapons instead of wing bags always ends in tears. Center line is for training and clean is for air shows. Standard block time for inside 10nm to topped off AAR is 10m for 2-ship, 15m for 4-ship.

my take is that the centerline tank gives us about 2000lbs more fuel and frees up two hardpoints for up to 6 more AG weapons. in a low ecm threat environment (ccip bombing, AB strike, pre plan cas,...) i can spare the jammer. i do agree, that aar revs up the mission time significantly, but i personally prefer delivering a bigger punch, even if it means topping off and coming back.
another way to put it: i like doing it :-D and i like boom^^

If you do set up these, I would love to be able to make it, AAR is very difficult for me. Had a quick look, but cant see the info on what server you fly in and how to join it?

Cheers!

DEBRIEFING ATO TUE, APR 18th

Post by Cougar » Wed Apr 19, 2017 12:12 pm

nice mission overall in my mind.
great attendance at first, reduced significantly before and during the mission. probable reason might have been the very progressed time in the european timezone to start with. also 52 minutes real time between connecting and taking off is way to much. reason was pilots coming or leaving during planning phase. happened on short notice, i know, but around the planned ATO time, no pilot was present. kind of annoying, having to ask you guys over steam if you are coming, although a ATO is planned  READ THE ATO! thats what it is there for!
props to the ones that stuck with the thing the whole way!

one runway was destroyed, reducing our mission target to 50% OP status. partial success in my opinion.

input greatly apreciated!

Apologies on my part on coming late (I was not responding to the ATO, did not know there was a mission on. I asked you on steam if you were still flying bit you did not see it until half an hour later- which is fine off course, but it explains the slow start), and doing my bit for getting things dragged out...

As for the mission itself, here are some (of many) thoughts (As I am a BMS noob- take everything a say with a huge grain of salt and make of it what you will)

-Very cool to fly with proficient people
-A lot of things could perhaps have been planned better (I thought we were going in in the weeds all the way, but we flew in at 22 before descending, straight into a Strela trap in the AO. )
-Intraflight comms could have been better. (The fight with the 29's comes to mind- not enough coordination, need more training)
-The proficiency level required for this mission was above the general skill level of our group at this point.
-I think it is VERY important that people get the feel that they master something before moving on. The three missions I have joined with a "large" crew like this have resulted in mass casaulties, which very quickly kills interest for people that have spent a lot of time preparing.
-Despite being not so active lately, I hosted a good number of missions for BMS earlier, and with easier missions, we survived the majority while still keeping it interesting. We did lots of defensive sweeps, SEAD, and bombing closer to home.
-If timing is an issue- don't allow people in after a set time. (Waiting an hour to get airborne is rough...)

It did not kill my interest though, and I want to fly more.

To summarize:
-Sorry for wasting peoples time (coming in late)
-Thanks for hosting and all the hard work setting this up entails
-The less proficient of us could use a lot more missions on an easier level.

i see a point there. nobody ever wastes my time though ;-)
mission planners will now look more to the roster of pilots available at the time and adjust accordingly, e.g. switching to a TE for teaching purposes. :nice:

Good mission for me, thanks for the hosting and organisation. It could be better for the timing, we took off too late for me I had to quit before landing, but after completing the task.
For me it was a tactical success, I survived and shot down 2 M29, but I was the only survivor of the escort.
