The Adjutant's Bus

Post by Grumpy » Sat Feb 02, 2019 11:26 pm

Although we are now fighting in the snowy steppes of Russia, I (and I know I am not alone in this) am still pining for my much-beloved Hurricane, L for London. So you can imagine my delight when my older son presented me with this as a Christmas present this year. It's the Airfix 1:48 Hurri Mk I with the Eduard photo-etched parts, correct serial number, B-pattern camouflage and, of course, my red spinner (the Treble One adjutant's perquisite). Really the only thing missing is the squadron disciplinary book resting on the cockpit seat (inside Treble One joke). What's most remarkable about this is that this is the first model he's made since he was about 5 years old. He bought an airbrush, taught himself to use it, and YouTubed the hell out of everything else. Perhaps the best Christmas present I've ever received. (the crap photography is all mine).

That's a pretty nice present indeed. Coincidentally I was watching the ACG Battle of Britain film today and am feeling awfully nostalgic. I miss flying for the RAF. Oh well, time to read tomorrow's briefing and get ready to go to war in comrade Stalin's flying dump truck.

Looks smart Grumpy - your son has done a fine job. Are you sure you’re allowed that red spinner though ;)
